Why do people give each other presents for Christmas?

Christmas is supposed to be the birthday of Jesus, but he was born in the spring. It's actually based off the pagan solstice celebration. Where the hell did presents come from?

Because when Jesus was born, 3 mens came on donkeys/camels(cant remember which one), and gave him 3 presants, gold, Frankincense, Myrrh which each represants different different things. And because of that people give each other presants to remind them of that moment when it happend to Jesus.. but these days a lot of it is commercialised

From wiki "Gift giving was common in the Roman celebration of Saturnalia, an ancient festival which took place in late December and may have influenced Christmas customs.[66] On Christmas, Christians exchange gifts on the basis that the tradition is associated St. Nicholas with Christmas,[67] and that gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh were given to the infant Jesus by the Biblical Magi.[68][69]" So basically it's just one of those mashing of religions that has been preserved, and possibly started, because we are all humany-wumany and we like getting/ receiving gifts. (that is just my opinion though)

God gave us the indescribable gift of Jesus, so we give gifts too. There is supposed to be a oneness in the spirit both with God and with the saints.
