Counterfeit Windows 7?

My Windows 7 laptop has been running really slowly for the past few days, and taking ages to start up and log on.

In addition to this, my desktop wallpaper has gone and in its place in the bottom right corner it says that my copy of Windows is not genuine, with the version number. I got a message saying that it could be counterfeit and I clicked on the validation link, but now the validation has been left for twenty minutes and hasn't worked. What should I do?

Well is it a pirate stolen copy? If so, that's why it's acting that way. To fix it you should buy a license and activate it.

If it's not a stolen copy, then you're out of date on your Windows update and are just experiencing the false positive on this error. Microsoft released a patch to fix them a couple of years ago. So you are wayyyy behind on updates if that's the case. Anyway, if you don't have a stolen copy, just go to microsoft.com website, find the downloads link and click it and then install your updates. That's the purpose of the updates --- to keep your Windows healthy.
