How do I download a movie to my computer from a DVD?

I really want to download a DVD to my computer to make an AMV, but I can't figure out how to do it. I would prefer a method where I don't have to download any software, my computer's a bit of a mess as it is, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Update:

I already have real player to convert it to the right format, I just need to know how to get the movie onto my computer. I tried using windows media player but I couldn't figure out how to do it

    Try windows media player since you don't like to use third party software like Nero
