What would you do in this situation?
I was working in a job that I hated. I have savings so I contemplated handing in my notice and just living on my savings until I looked for a new job in the new year.
I went for an interview a day after I handed in my notice and then I was called for an interview on the same day. I was offered the job today, on the condition that I start on Monday.
My notice period for my current job is 4 weeks, so my notice should end on 7th Jan because I handed it in on 10th December.
The current role is an £11k pay rise. The new employer said that he cannot wait for me because of the Christmas period and training availability.
What would you do? Honestly.....

If your new employer does not require a reference then you could leave. You might loose out on holidays owed. Depends which kind of company you are presently working for, and what they would do. Many threaten Breach of Contract but it would cost them to sue you.

take any holiday owing and start when your holiday starts
the ruling is unless you have been there for over 1 year you have to give a months notice according to your contract? the EU ruling is that you can give as little as 1 days notice, so make your choice but please do not burn your bridges or annoy your current employer too much and just give a weeks' and call it even
