I'd endorse the non-Retina MacBook professional. I own the 13" mannequin, and it is an high-quality laptop. In the event you evaluate it to the Retina model, it has extra ports (including Ethernet and a CD power) and a some distance larger storage pressure. The Retina MacBook pro bills much more than a excessive-resolution reveal justifies, and has gotten excessive hype from every person not too long ago. Go together with the MacBook professional (i might endorse the high-end 13" mannequin - it is got 8 GB of RAM, double the norm', the sector's fastest dual-core computing device processor, a 750 GB tough force, compared to the 128 GB SSD on the Retina model, and a slim design, though not as skinny because the Retina). Save $600-$one thousand and get some cool instances and add-ons in your new computer.

I would strongly recommend the non-Retina MacBook Pro. For $1499 at the Apple store (and about $100 less at Amazon), you can get the maxed-out 13" MacBook Pro, which includes a 750 GB hard drive, 8 GB of RAM, and the world's fastest laptop dual-core processor. That's $200 less than the Retina, which has less storage (albeit slower storage) and a weaker processor. Also, your point about the CD drive is a good one. Though I don't use it much, the added Ethernet port is important when you are anywhere without WiFi. Go with the Retina-less MacBook Pro, and use the money to get it as upgraded as possible.

(second paragraph answers your question) If you go retina, you are wasting your money. IMO the screen resolution doesn't look much different to the regular. I understand if netbooks don't have disk drives, but this is a laptop. It's stupid to get rid of the dis drive.
To really answer your question, if you use cds alot, or at all, I would go for the regular 13" pro. Some games like sims require the cd for example. Get the regular one.
Also, upgrading to ssd may be the equivalent price to the retina and you have the cd drive.

I would recommend getting the retina display macbook pro. This is why...
1. It has a solid-state drive. This is very useful for video editing.
2. It has a high resolution display. This way, you can zoom way into videos.
3. It's very thin. This is for portability.
Also, the cd drive probably won't matter that much, unless you are a big fan of watching movies.

My daughter has a mac with retina display and finds many web pages are not maximized for that resolution and are therefore not clear. It seems the retina is ahead of the curve in programming web sites. Go to a store and check it out for yourself and see which renders the web better for your purposes. The cd/dvd drive is a nice addition as well to the non retina mac.
