Can you wear a red velvet blazer for a black tie event?

I'm 16 and going to a ball type thing and I have to wear black tie. I wanted to wear a red velvet blazer because I think they look really good and I was wondering if it would be appropriate. I don't think this is the most formal occasion so I'm not really sure.

Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm a guy!

If you're a guy, then yes that would look fancy. it looks like a "Chuck' from Gossip Girl kind of outfit, but it you're a girl then i prefer leggings and black swayed heels with it. (:

A cool black/grey t-shirt and ripped / distressed jeans and trainers would be cool. Or a black shirt, not tucked in with the top button open with jeans and informal footwear. It's going to be very convenient to look like a low-cost classless pimp in that jacket, so do it justice!!!

yes it should be fine - it would work well with a velvet bow tie too - very 70's. and if you really wanted the 70's look complete it with a ruffle shirt.
