Can someone help me with my soundcard?

hi everyone

i had a recent pc upgrade but now i am having a hard time connecting my external cassette player to my pc. I have an onboard soundcard with realtek high definition audio driver. My cassette player does not have any audio in/out jack so i use a cable to connect them both. (one end goes into the headphone jack and the other one goes into the line in jack of the sound card). I have used this setup successfully in my old pc but the only difference is that it had an external soundcard.

Right now i can only hear faint sounds while playing a cassette or turning on the radio. Is there anything else that i need to do to make this work?

Update:

I forgot to add that i have tried and tweaked almost everything. I am sure that there is no problem with volume coz it shows full.

I would make sure that the Line In volume is not turned down.

Start > Control Panel > Sound > Recording > Double click 'Line In' and play with the levels.
