How early should I get to the movie?

So, um, yeah, I don't really go to movies that often, and when I do it's usually a week or so after their release. I'm seeing The Hobbit tonight and I know there were long lines at the midnight premiere but will it be as bad tonight?

Update:

How early is early enough? Like our Fandango receipt suggested we get there a half hour early and that's our plan for the time being, but we can leave earlier too if necessary.

I imagine that the lines will be pretty long. A lot of people i know had to work today so they didn't go last night. you might want to plan a extra hour or so.

A half hour early is not early enough, and I would suggest at least a half hour to an HOUR earlier than that. You COULD wait for a few weeks and then go, because the crowds will be smaller.

I would still go early, I went to the midnight premier and it was CRAZY! Luckily we got there about 45 minutes early and got great seats. Go early, you'll be glad you did.

I usually get there about half an hour before the film's due to start :-)
