Dear Ashley,
IF you need to ask… There’s a really good chance you aren’t. This is one of those things that ONLY YOU can answer. And to do it you’ll need to honestly look inside of yourself.
Let me ask YOU this… Stop and fantasies for a minute… IF Barbara Eden were to climb out of her bottle, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Dream_of_Jeannie and offer you, your IDEAL body, What would he or she look like? IF you’d design that “new you” as the opposite gender from the one you are now… there’s a GOOD chance you are gender-dysphoric and need to see a therapist.
Let me ask you this… How do you know if you are hungry? You just KNOW it.

PS This has VARY little if anything to do with who you want to sleep with. That’s called “sexual preference”. Just a little sidebar for the ones that want to tell you “It’s about not wanting to be gay.” That one will not get you any letters.
And it’s not JUST about wanting to wear your sisters dress either… That’s cross-dressing. Just sayin’.

Have you ever wanted to wear the opposite sexes clothes? Have you ever dreamed you could do things the opposite sex can? When you were young, did you ever secretly or even openly played with toys meant for the opposite sex? If you have answered yes to any or all of these questions then you many in fact be transgender. And like the others have said, if you are you know. =)

If they feel a strong, constant desire to be a member of the opposite sex. They feel as if they are of the opposite sex, just in the wrong body. It isn't something that comes and goes, it isn't a passing urge or phase, it's something that starts very early in life and never goes away.
If you were transgender, you would know.
