Why are some christian fundies linking Adam Lanza to atheism?

Seems the thing to do.

1 - You are opposed to a particular group or a particular person

2 - Some little-known person does something terrible

3 - You associate that someone with that group or person you oppose in an effort to discredit and defame that group or person

So: Adam Lanza is an atheist or a homosexual or whatever other group you want to associate with a recent calumny

It also works in reverse:

Obama is a Muslim or the Antichrist or an illegal alien or whatever other group the accuser associates with calumny

The same sort of thing happens everywhere, I think.

Middle East - U.S. is "the Great Satan"

U.K. - Prince Charles (or Prince William, depending on the source) is the Antichrist

etc.

Probably any extremist (not necessarily religious fundamentalists) is likely to form such associations for self-serving reasons.

Religious extremism combined with mental illness may be the primary factor. It was already reported that his mother was very strict, pulled her son out of school and home schooled her son, Adam Lanza. The guns he used, she purchased legally. The reasoning she pulled Adam out of school was because of a dispute with the school board over educational issues. Reporters are avoiding what those issues were. Disputes with school boards -are- public record and yet there is no report of what that dispute was. In the past 10 years the majority of all disputes that resulted in the rapid growth of home schooling was entirely fueled by christian fundamentalism opposing the teaching of evolution in science, the teaching of sex education in biology and more recently climate science as a social impact. Many of the christian groups that oppose these topics are extreme enough to become isolationists and frequently incite or exercise violence. I site the westborough baptists as a religious extremist group who's intent is to incite anger if not violence. The westborough baptists publicly protest the funerals of soldiers to incite social unrest. Charles Manson was a white supremacist who believed he was god ordained to start a war between white Americans and African Americans in the US. Joseph Paul Franklin was influenced by Manson and was a white supremacist, identity movement christian who suddenly decided to start a serial killing spree against jewish people because of his faith derived from Manson and the bible. Mental illness and christian extremism are a dangerous mixture.

Marx, Nietzsche, Lenin, Trotsky, Mao, Pol Pot, and their thousands of henchmen who murdered millions were all atheists.

Scientists who have filled the wordl with WMDS that could not only destroy civiization in an afternoon but poison the earth for Millenia to come...atheists.
