Genetic enhancement thoughts and feelings?

what are your feelings on genetic enhancement for military personnel? Such as increases in motor skill function, 20/5 vision, increased muscle mass, strength, stamina, stronger bones, faster healing time, ability to regrow limbs, intelligence, and more resilient joints. Everyone will keep their individuality, yet make them better more effective Service Members. It would be my dream to see that become a reality.

Update:

I forgot greater ability to see at night, more scent receptors.

It's inevitable, some form of genetic enhancement will be upon us very soon. The question is: How far is too far?

There's this prinicpal in nature that keeps everything balanced. In humans, fish, birds, plants, you name it.

The weak don't survive. I know that's a bit savage, but it's nature. And it happens that way so that those who do survive are better for their species. It works for the sake of our overall survival and well-being.

Taking factors like that out of the equasion- be it what you're speaking of, or eliminating diseases, or whatever- and you disbalance the equasion. We don't want that to happen. Because the result is that we have to keep inventing new technologies to farther manipulate nature towards what we need it to be.

That's not the way the world works. Nature functions off of a design that has been in the making for all of time. We do not have the authority to step in and make changes when we do not know how we will affect everything else.

That seems to be the problem here. It might be great for humans- it would be horrible for every other life form on earth.

We need to learn to work with what nature gives us. Because only that is the key to sustainability. Otherwise we will forever be working against our own progress, correcting our own mistakes, and changing thigns that are way over our heads.

  • i don't see those as *genetic* improvements. may be sooner provided by cybernetic prosthetics.

not in the sense of a magical jab that will make you stronger/seeing better etc.

if those are introduced in tissue bred soldiers, i don't want to ever be one of those, as those would be ethically at the level of drones... expendable nonpersons.

the genetics just DON'T work this way.. magically upgrading the number of cones or [the other vision cell] in the retina.

genetics simply is but ONE piece of puzzle.. proper ontogenesis being the other significant part.

one can reasonably assume that we will be doing cybernetics interfaces SOONER than we will be able to introduce in vitro bred tissues and their embedding into the natural organism.

    cochlear implants.. existing thing.

It is the wave of the longer term and for this reason now not alterable. Genetically Engineered humans can be sophisticated to us in every manner. They may even substitute us because the dominant species in the world..

I swear I read stronger bones and stronger boners haha, but in all seriousness I love that idea, I would be the first to volunteer for an experiment like that.

So like Captain America? (So does that mean we'd all automatically become officers? I'd like that!)

But seriously, that would be nice, but something like that usually has side affects/draw backs, and depending on them, it might not be worth it.
