Why did George Bush and the NRA/Militia Republicans legalize assault rifles?
Like the one used in Connecticut? I thought they were illegal?

Not mentioned so far is the fact that assault rifles usually have extra large capacity ammo clips.
This comes in handy when you are murdering innocent people.

I think George Bush should be given an assault rifle and sent to Iraq until the war is over,,,he should have been there since day 1....

Semi automatic weapons require one trigger pull per bullet. An assault rifle is a select fire rifle that can switch between fully automatic and semi automatic fire, which are illegal.
For the stupid liberals in the crowd , full auto is when all you have to do is hold down the trigger and bullets empty out until you let go. Except in full auto the recoil is bad for extended periods and would start moving upwards and missing the target you're shooting at. Particularly with larger calibers.

They let the 1994 "Assault Weapon Ban" expire because it was doing no good in reducing crime.
Besides, under the Militia Act of 1792, every able-bodied male between the ages of 17 and 42 is the militia of the United States. Thus, it only makes sense to have rifles similar to those of the active-duty armed forces available.

They legalized so-called "assault weapons" which are semi-automatic rifles which look similar to military guns, not true assault rifles (which are capable of both semi-auto and full-auto fire). True assault rifles (like all other full-auto weapons) are still very strictly regulated in the US by federal law, according to the National Firearms Act of 1934.

The ban had a time limit. Funny how you guys keep reminding us about time limits when it comes to the Bush tax cuts.
