What kinds of things do we take from our grandparents ?

I was just wondering, even though grandparents dont always last forever besides in our hearts, i was just wondering what things do we take from them, like type of dna or do we take certain things that we do from them ? Is there any type of certain things everybody grabs from their grandparents or is it different for every person ? because i never got to know my grandmother that well and i know my mom cant really tell what id have from her, but im just wondering in general, whether grandmother or grandfather, what do people take from them ? Do we take alot ? Do we take anything at all ? Im very curious about this, i appreciate all of the answers and suggestions you give me, thank you and God Bless.

Dominant traits do not skip generations, but recessive traits can skip any number of generations. Moreover, most of the obvious or phenotypic traits, like hair and eye color, involve more than one gene. Hence, it is possible to inherit such traits from a grandfather or grandmother that are different from one or both parents'. Thus, you may see evidence of physical traits, like a widow's peak, by looking at old photographs of your grandparents. For example, I have naturally curly hair just like my maternal grandmothers', even though both my parents have straight hair.

Each individual inherits 50 percent of his or her genetic make up from each parent, so each grandparent is responsible for 25 percent of one's DNA. Of course, both your parents may have mannerisms and belief systems that they took from their parents and in turn passed on to you. Everyone alive today is a product of both heredity and environment.

  • The ONLY thing a person receives from a grandparent is some DNA. Unless of course you inherit something from them.

3 of my grandparents died before I was born; my maternal grandmother died when I was 10 months old. I have seen very old photos of my maternal grandmother, but none of the other 3. I have info on them, the genealogical info plus a little more. I have inherited absolutely nothing from any one.

    Happy holidays!

You are asking about genetics and that is science/biology for which a forum like this ( however much people say they can) can't help you with that would need Laboratory time , your DNA is 25% of your grandparent ...............we research the paper trail of records our ancestors left behind, so what you are asking is opinion and you are asking strangers an opinion about people they don't know...........

You need to read up on DNA if you are interested in it... although I don't think it will answer your question.......... as I think you are asking what specifically did your grandpa pass onto you, like specific things such as colour of eyes and it doesn't work like that....

We take approximately 25% of our DNA from each grandparent. The split isn't exactly 50/50 from each parent or 25% from each grandparent, but it is close.

I never knew any of my grandparents but researching their family history has made me feel closer to them.
