Fiction Novel World War II?

I'm currently learning about World War II, so I figured it might be a good idea to read a novel about it. When I was younger I use to reads tons of fiction novels about this subject, and I learned a decent amount. So does anyone have a recommendation of a fiction (it can be non fiction, as long as it's written as a story) about World War II. I really want a book that covers the majority; or at least a certain part of the war. Also I live in Canada, so we take a general look at the war, and not fully focus on the US part (or at least we didn't for World War I), so can you please recommend a novel with maybe a German point of view.

Thanks :)

    Fiction:

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

    Nonfiction:

Survivors: True Stories of Children in the Holocaust

Surviving the Angel of Death: A True Story of a Mengele Twin in Auschwitz by Eva Kor

The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom

I live in the US, and very little of my World War II studies focused on the US. Most of it was about what was happening in Europe.

Does Anne Frank's Diary come to mind? Brilliant book and brings me to tears. If you haven't already heard of it, it's the true diary of a Jewish girl that survived in the Holocaust.

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is also great. It's a fictional book on a young girl in Denmark who's friend was Jewish.

Someone Named Eva by Joan M. Wolf is fantastic. It's also a fictional book on a young Czech girl who lives through the annexation of Czechoslovakia. My teacher read it to me, and I had cried through it.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne is HEARTBREAKING...it's the fictional story about the son of a Nazi who befriends a boy in a concentration camp. There is also a movie about it.

Oh, and I'm half Quebecois, so I see what you mean. I hope my book recommendations helped you! Happy holidays! I know there's more that I love, but I just can't remember right now...

You also might want to check out some documentaries on the war as well. I've seen a few, although I can't remember them by name, and they all show the horrific details.

Like I said, I hope I help you somehow & happy holidays!

EDIT: Just remembered another one! It's called Devil's Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. I could not even fathom it properly because of it's contents. It's this fictional book about a Jewish girl who is transported backwards in time and finds herself living in the year of 1942 in Poland. Awesome and intriguing!

I looked at the other books mentioned, and this one hasn't been yet:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

It's about a girl during WWII that steals books for various reasons. During WWII, the Nazi party raided multiple books stores and burned many outlawed books. The backstory is very similar to "Fahrenheit 451". What is interesting is that the book is written from the point of view, sort of, of Death personified. Also, the girl doesn't steal books in an act of defiance. She has very unique motives. The book itself is historical fiction.

"Night" by Elie Wiesel is a short book, but it is non-fiction and very good. It's a true story about when he was in a concentration camp as a teenager.
