How can I disable elan laptop mousepad?

How can I disable elan laptop mousepad?

I recently had to get a new hardrive on my laptop. I could disable it before, but not now. There is no option to click 'elan', but before there was. I am using a manual mouse and the cursor moves crazy since I can't disable it. Help?? Thanks!

Update:

I'm sorry, I don't understand how to do any of this. My keyboard doesn't have a Fn key, only F keys with numbers across the top of the keyboard.

Update 2:

About the start/control/mouse - before we changed the harddrive, this had where you could click on 'elan' keyboard mouse and disable it. And that's what I always did. Since the change, this option isn't there. It shows only the hand held mouse (which is what I am using now)

On startup, what F keys are you talking about?

There are some ways to disable mouse pad, depending on manufacturer:

1.press Fn + F (with mouse picture on it) key

    2. Start / Control Panel / Mouse. You should be able to disable it from there

    3. restart computer on startup there are for couple seconds to push F keys to get to BIOS. You can disable it from here.
