The economy is driven by consumer spending

To get consumers to spend more money then they have to have more money.

When government increase taxes then consumers have less money

When government decrease taxes then consumers have more money

So if you want to get consumer spending going then you have to decrease government spending and wait for consumers to spend it. Consumer need to know it is long term though which is why stimulus never works, It is a blip in thier budget that they do not expect the next year, so better to bank it.

Government is a fixed cost to consumers and thier largest cost.

Now who are the biggest consumers. The rich. They pay more for a car than a family makes in a year. Attacking them is stupid but some of them cheat the system.

So, I can't tell you what the equilibrium point is on taxes and exactly what percentage everyone should pay but the Congressman is dead on target and punishing everyone instead of the cheaters comes from hate and envy not any reasonable policy.

It is based on the principle that two half-truths make a whole truth.

We do need to cut spending (shrink Washington) to deal with the deficit.

We do need to create jobs (to boost the economy).

    0.5+0.5 = 1

Nice vague statement, but could you be a little more specific? The entire budget is about 4 trillion dollars. Which billions are you talking about?
