If firearms are so bad why do our government officials have armed guards?

Use some common sense people. Bloomberg is quick to want more gun registration yet he has a security team. Now what is the poor working class person supposed to do? he can't afford a armed guard, If the firearm caused these crimes then military forces cause wars. Cars cause accidents and it was the planes fault it crashed into the twin towers not the terrorists. I can say that because it makes as much sense as saying guns kill. 

I am sick and tired of how the anti gun crowd circles around a tragedy like in Connecticut. It reminds me of Buzzards circling carrion waiting for its opportunity to feast on the aftermath. Pelosi and the rest should be ashamed, this is not a time to further agendas. 

When are you going to realize that objects within themselves cannot kill, it takes the conscious action of a person bent on destruction to make an item lethal. this was proven when a plane was used 9/11, A car was used last year to plow into a crowd killing 38 people. and a knife was used in China the same day as the CT tragedy to kill 22 children.

I also ask why is the press condemning Assault weapons when it was hand guns that were primarily used. They stated in the news the Assault weapon was in the trunk of his car.
Next this person killed his mother and stole the firearms. That in itself makes the firearm illegally acquired. Then it was brought into a gun free zone "illegal" So how would another law of helped?

The solution is so simple. There should be a super strong magnet portal that sucks the weapons and sticks them to the post till the shooter regrets ever walking near that place. Quick. Quiet. Effective. Then sell the guns to the scrap yard to pay for the slightly higher electric bill.

A plane was used on the 9/11 attack, true! but a planes' function is to transport people. There are so many objects that we use in a daily basis that can be used as a weapon and there's nothing we can do about it unless we ban planes, knives, hammers, lamps etc. Guns are different, they are designed to kill. They have no other function but to kill or injure others. There's no way we can be assured that by banning guns we won't have mass shootings anymore but this is getting out of control and the goverment has to at least try. Give me one good reason why a civilian needs to have rifles, automatic guns that shoot at such a rapid speed. Also, how many people save their lives because they own a gun and how many people die over it? Is it worth it?

You have a good point,also what anti gunners fail to point out is in states and cities like Illinois,CA,New York city,New Jersey, Wash,D.C. etc. they have some of the toughest gun laws, but the highest gun violence, because criminals don't listen to gun laws.

WOW YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!  Sorry about the shouty capitals...but someone seriously needs to grab your attention and shake you up.  so....... TWENTY TWO CHILDREN DID NOT DIE IN A KNIFE ATTACK IN CHINA.  TWENTY TWO CHILDREN AND TEACHERS SUFFERED EXTREMELY MINOR INJURIES IN AN ATTACK IN CHINA BEFORE THE ATTACKER WAS STOPPED.  He was stopped because he was using a knife and was easily overpowered.

Its a pretty simple equation and you are the one with faulty logic circuits.  You cant shoot 20 babies and 6 teachers if you dont have a gun.  The gun may not have aimed itself but it was created for one purpose only.....to kill.  Cars and knives on the other hand have many useful purposes, the fact that they can also be used as weapons is purely coincidental.

Fact:  If the gunman was armed with a knife, not an assault rifle, he would never have gained entry to the school.  The gunman shot the door in to gain entry.
