Is it proper to write 2^3 which equals 8 as the 1/3 root of 2?

I don't usually see it written that way. I see the opposite more: the cubed root of 8 which can also be written at 8 to the 1/3 power.

Update:

Keep in mind: I said the the one third root of 2 not the cubed root of two.

Mathematically the two are equal, if this is what you mean by proper. I've never seen a number written with a fractional root but since you can have fractional powers, it would probably make sense that you could have fractional roots as well.

No ... the third root of 2 is much smaller than 8 ... it is 2^(1/3) = 1.2599 when you cube it, you get back to 2
