How can i fix my macbook pro battery issues?

I own a mid 2011 15 inch macbook pro. My current battery max is arround 90, even though it shows a 99%. It marks 1:30 hours of battery remaining when it's full. I want to prolongue the battery life of my macbook.. i made a long trip and kept my phone connected to the laptop the whole time. The original battery life is about 7 hours. My 90% should be around 6.3 hours but it shows just 1:30... extra info http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446

    Batteries lose capacity over time depending on how much they are used. Frequent total draining of the battery doesn't help either. You don't have 90% of it's original capacity, you have 90% of it's current capacity. Consider replacing the battery if you want more than a couple hours of use. If you do get a new battery, use the laptop plugged in when that is convenient and don't let the battery completely drain too often...you'll save on the overall life and capacity of the battery.

    EDIT:

    @Soupfine:

    On the contrary, frequently draining and recharging the battery is the best thing you can do for it to extend it's life.

    A battery needs to be working continuously to keep in shape.

    It is recommended to fully drain and recharge a laptop battery every two weeks or more often to extend its life.

    What's bad for a battery is draining just a very small percentage and recharging, like using laptop off battery for 15-30 minutes and plugging back in.

    Once you unplug a laptop you need to use it off battery power for at least 1-2 hours before you plug it back in.

    Batteries will decrease storage capacity over time, especially if not used properly or if you were lucky enough to get a bad one.

    No way to restore a battery back to its former glory short of buying a new one...
