What to say when you don't want an interviewer to call your old employer?

I was fired for being pregnant. I am in middle of an EEOC case & so far they say there isn't enough proof. Since I was fired & filed an EEOC case on him I don't want the interviewer to call my last job. So how do I handle this? Also what would I say if they ask what my old employer would say about me? I haven't gotten an interview yet, but I'm just preparing for when I do.

    obviously you were not fired for being pregnant, obviously there was a different reason given that you don't want to accept... the EEOC has made it clear that there is no proof you were discriminated against...

    your former employer can say anything that is TRUTHFUL about your work history but if there is an unresolved charge with the EEOC they will NOT bring that up..... however they can and will say why they fired you (or repeat the reason they gave you) if they want to release that.... many employers as a matter of policy will not release anything other than dates of employment, job titles and sometimes re-hire status...

    if you ask that the employer not be contacted your potential employer would wonder why, they would assume you have something to hide... and if you have listed this employer on an application or in a resume you have in fact given your permission for them to be contacted...

    so request what ever you want but realize that some employers would honor your request, many would not, and most would wonder why you don't want them contacted...

    Did you know that old employers fear to death getting sued over giving a bad reference?

    Often all they can answer is just two questions such as

    1. Would you re-hire this person?

    2. Can you verify that he/she worked from Jan 00 to July 00?

    3. Was the position as a cashier?

    That's about it !

    Ask anyone that has ever been in a position to give a reference.

    You have to be seriously careful and not say anything bad.

    The one about re-hiring, tells them if you got fired or you quit in good terms.

    You don't do anything if you want the job. And an employer can say all of the truth they want to when asked about a past employee.
