Tips for Painting a Ukulele?
I'm getting my sister a Ukelele for christmas, nothing fancy, just a $30 one from Guitar Center, as she's never had one before and I think she'd like it because she's really artsy and musical.
That being said, I need tips on painting designs on the Uke, so I don't drastically ruin the instrument by accident.
Also, any suggestions as to designs to make it more fun and personal (designs don't have to be personal) would be great.
Thanks in advance! :)

Hello there,
You have no experience with refinishing instruments and you do not wish to ruin this instrument. So, forget about painting it. That is one of the quickest ways to ruin the sound of an acoustic stringed instrument. If you don't know what you are doing, you will ruin it. So don't try.

If you want to paint the instrument, acrylics should work well. Depending on what kind of finish the instrument has, and how much you wish to cover... You may wish to lightly sand it first. If it has a gloss finish, and you only want to paint small areas, mask the surrounding finish with painter's tape and then lightly sand the area you plan to paint.
This will help the paint adhere.

My advice is not to paint it. Let her personalize it later if she wants. You could ruin it.
