insomnia......Don't Lay Down!!!?

do you ever put off laying down to sleep? I cringe at the thought.......been on every pill in the pharmacy....I don't need advice about the condition itself.......but when I gotta be up in 3 or 4 hours, or 12 for that matter......I'm afraid to try to sleep. Sounds ridiculous....just wondering if anyone else procrastinates going to bed in fear of insomnia.

    You're obviously over thinking it.

The more you worry, the more anxiety affects your sleeping habits.

If you have to get up at a certain time, it is your responsibility to lay down and correct your procrastination habits.

And to answer your question, yes, people do that all the time. But they all know their fear is why they have insomnia in the first place.

Sounds like you might be scared of dreams if you fall asleep - or there are other fears about being asleep - like not being in control or able to defend yourself if a bear comes in to the cave - its a perfectly natural primeval fear - but its not really good to let it get a hold of you in this day and age.

I would check things are unplugged. Nothing can catch fire. The windows are locked and so are the doors. No one can get in whilst you are sleeping. Close the bedroom door and then relax and know you are safe to sleep.

If you are sleeping sitting in a chair then although sleep is good, its better for your neck and posture if you can lay down. Maybe can I suggest you do lay down - and tell yourself you are not going to SLEEP but you are RESTING. Push your feet right down and make yourself as long as possible. Feel the muscles relax and just lay down . if you happen to go to sleep then its ok.

When you wake up.. realize you did wak up.. nothing terrible happened and you can repeat the trial any time you want.

I do. What I find helps is either a warm bath, or a glass of wine. Combined and I'm out like a light. Don't know how old you are though. Start working out in the morning (NEVER at night) and it can help also! Also I'll caffeine in the morning, so that I crash later in the day and can sleep easier.
