Destination wedding ..do you always have to marry in a town hall before beach?

hi all

My partner and I are considering going abroad to get married due to our all year round bad weather. it would be nice to get married in a nice warm dry climate :) e.g. greece, spain, italy

I was just wondering, alot of places say you must get married in the local town hall before getting married in the garden or beach of your chosen place. Some even say you must have a civil ceremony in your home town before having a wedding in certain locations (which defeats the purpose)

my question is do you always have to get married in the local town hall before getting married in your location of choice? or is it possible to book a location, get married in the grounds e.g. beach view etc and for it still to be a legal marraige ?

It depends on the laws in the local area where the wedding will take place.

In the US and most of the Caribbean you can pretty much get married wherever you want.

In Europe it is very different. In Italy you can only marry in a Catholic church, a Jewish synagogue, or a registrars office, so if you wanted to marry on a beach you would need a separate legal ceremony somewhere else.

A civil service IS getting married at town hall. Basically you sign the marriage license before a judge, but you do not have to consider this your wedding day it is just the legal formalities.

Depends on the country and even region. In France, for instance, you do have to marry in a town hall since only civil ceremonies are recognized. In other countries, different rules.

Since you're getting married abroad, you have to do it the way they do in that country. If you're using their system and recognizing their customs. Here, you could get married in a courthouse or other setting, and then have a separate one at the beach for renewal of vows. or arrange to have a wedding done right on the beach very possibly. I'd check with wherever your destination wedding is going to be on the customs there.

If its an casual wedding ceremony costume that's going to likely be large, lots of people who get married at a courtroom abode/county clerk/city corridor placed on wedding ceremony outfits. A costume with a cathedral prepare could be over the properly suited. whether, you could basically have a million "genuine" wedding ceremony, which ever is first is your "genuine" wedding ceremony. the only in Puerto Rico would be a vow renewal rite on the grounds which you will already be married, not a marriage. on the grounds that they're so a techniques aside, i could easily evaluate it a belated honeymoon. sturdy luck and congrats!

It depends on where you're from and where you'd be getting married. Different states/countries have different rules.

Talk to your local town hall, county clerk, or government office (whoever handles weddings) and see what the rules are.
