Question about laptop processors/laptops in general?
So I'm looking for refurbished laptops right? Well, one of them is an HP with an AMD A-Series A6-4400M processor (2.70GHz) and 6 GB of ram, and the other is a Dell with an Intel Core i3 processor (2.40GHz) and 6 GB of ram. So I'm not sure if this is entirely subjective or objective information, but I've always heard that Intel is better than AMD for processors, but in this case the AMD has more GHz. So, which one would be more worth my time and money? Thanks

The Intel CPU is far faster than the AMD. GHZ and number of cores are just meaningless marketing terms. Right now Intel Duals clocked significantly lower than AMD "quads" (get real people - they're 2 modules, not 4 discrete cores -.-) will outperform them in 90%+ of programs.
The AMD IGP may be slightly faster than the Intel IGP (negligible; neither are really gaming viable).
The choice is obvious. AMD isn't a choice. It's a mistake.

First, gigahertz means nothing. Don't buy or avoid a processor based on what number they put before "GHz" to describe it. There is so much more that determines processor performance, the clock rate (which is the "gigahertz") is just one tiny aspect of the processor that's overblown for marketing purposes. In reality, a 2.1GHz Core i3-2310M is faster than a 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo (both dual-core).
Second, you're focusing on the raw performance of the processors, which doesn't matter at all for basic use. However, if you're interested in gaming, you'll want to look at the performance of the GPUs integrated into each of the CPUs. You'll be able to get better integrated GPU performance with this $379 ASUS K55N:

The A8-4500M's integrated 7640G is one of the better game performers available for under $400.

i build with both types the amd will run faster but a little hotter i like intel better for that reason, get a cooling pad either way.
