Do you notice the chord inversions played in Over the Hills & far Away by Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wEi2aYmdNU

I really noticed the main intro chord progression's tonic is inverted from the 3rd and 5th position to the 9th and 7th positions. Both being major chord inversions keeping with the resonant introductory theme from the guitar.

I am writing a tutorial regarding the use of chord inversions and I posit that inversions are the secret to keeping a chord progression exciting to the listener and player alike. It allows you to hear or play the same general idea or pep it up without abandoning the musical thought or "groove" as it is. I think Over The Hills is a great example of it's usage in a rock song. Jimmy Page does this in many other songs too.

Can you hear the chord inversions when he plays them, or do you just jam the song because it ROCKS! And, do you know of other songs that chord inversions play a big part of the arrangement?

They were all determined diplomats; for they were everything I have never been v_v Perhaps we shared the same blatant honesty, and the same subtle wit, but had none of these qualities existed within myself, I do not think I would have had any friends at all. BQ: I cannot say whether they had any romantic interests. If they had, however, I was completely oblivious to it; and considering they were all very open people, I am remain positive that I would have heard something of the sort had they had such interests to begin with - whether they confided in me or not! - Aries Sun, 1H. - Aries Venus, 2H. - Pisces Mercury, 12H.
