AMD Phenom II x6 or x4?

Ok so im going to upgrade my computers CPU, Im switching from Intel to AMD (I know, you dont hear that every day, im just sick and tired of Intel's bloated pricing) Im shooting to upgrade it to a Planetside 2 ready computer, just one question, The X6 has 6 cores running @ 2.7 Ghz, but the X4 has 4 cores running @ 3.4 Ghz, which one would be better for gaming? and if you dont think these are good, if you could make me a reccomendation for another CPU, that would be great, thanks!

It depends on what motherboard you have, and how big your allowable TDP is. But if you can handle a 125 watt TDP chip, I would go with the Phenom II x6 1100T (or 1090T if you cant find the 1100). I had one about a year ago and really got a lot of good use out of it. Its very fast and overclocks nicely.

They are a little hard to find because AMD discontinued them, but they're out there if you look.

I would take a 1100T or a 1090T over any of the newer Bulldozer or Piledriver chips.

I would say if you really want amd, get something like a AMD FX 6100 6-Core Processor all of the series higher or lower are unlocked so you can Overclock based on online recommendations. If money is not so much an issue staying in amd get a FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz it's what bulldozer should have been & the more you crank up resolution the less the cpu is used anyways so modern cpus all do well relatively although some might do better. Your GPU should be your biggest concern If you gaming 720p or 1080p amd is fine. Planetside 2 reminds me of battlefield 3 as some physics would be used in such a big open world. I would say 8320 Vishera, an overclocked one slighty but does smoke my 1st gen i7 875k @ 4.3ghz

Source(s): Bottom line for modern gaming have 4 cores @ 3ghz Min for high quality gaming

Hi! You answered mine and I said I would answer yours in the question descripiton, so here I am. But, I have to say I know nothing about what you are asking. But I know a boy that has the X4 and he hasn't complained about it.

according to following CPU's gaming performance hierarchy chart, intel is still way to go when it comes to gaming

    even i3's beat AMD processors

so if u have budget, i will say get i5 2400 + H61 motherboard and a descent dedicated graphics card
