  • Fix a Hard Bricked Phone?

OK about a week back, my mom's phone just stopped working, like for no reason. she turned it off before going to bed, and the next morining, it just wouldn't turn on, like nothing, no lights, screen, anything. I tried booting into recovery mode, but that didn't seem to work either. becoming frustrated, I plugged the phone into my PC via USB cable, and to my horror, the phone came up as "QHSUSB_DLOAD" or better known as "Qualcomm High Speed USB Download Mode", which means its Hard Bricked, or not able to boot in any way AT ALL. The warranty on the phone is over, so we cant get a new phone, so I was wondering, is there any way to hard reset the phone, or factory reset the ROM, or anything else, ANYTHING, to get this phone unbricked, my mom doesn't have anything that she needs on the phone, so if it needs to be 100% wiped, thats fine. just anything before I have to send it in and pay $100 to have it de-bricked via JTAG ROM rewrite. So if anybody has any helpful advice, I would LOVE to hear it. (btw it's a LG MyTouch 4g model: LGE739) Thanks in advance guys, and if you need any more information, just ask me.

  • Android Tablet OS Upgrade?

Ok so my mom just bought an Android based tablet about a year ago, it has a slightly modified version of Android 4.04 (Ice Cream Sandwich) loaded on it, and the other problem is, it has a bunch of manufacturer bulls**t apps preloaded on to it, most of them are either fake, or nonworking, and its really annoying. What I want to do is download a fresh copy of Android 4.04 (presumably from their website) and install it on to the tablet and start from a fresh copy of Android 4.04. The problem is, even though I am very tech savvy, I have never worked with the Android OS before, therefore, I am a bit worried that I will just end up bricking my moms tablet. So my question is, Where and how would I obtain a (GENUINE AND LEGAL) copy of Android 4.04 for a tablet, and do a clean installation of it on the tablet. There is nothing my mom wants that is already on the tablet, so it's ok if it needs to be completely wiped. Please be as detailed as possible, I really don't want this blowing up in my face. Thanks in advance guys! (ps, it's an Ematic EXLB3B tablet, Just let me know if any more info is needed!) (pps, and if it can't be done, just let me know)

  • (Community Poll) Do you think it should be mandatory that schools teach their students how to type?

Recently, my sister (who is now going into 7th grade) was assigned an over-the-summer project that included typing up a 5 page paper on why they think summer break is necessary. One day I went in to the computer room to get some tape, and found that my sister only had something like half a page done, because she still "pecks" the keys. I asked her why she isn't typing, and she told me that "It's too hard and I never learned how to do it." The funny thing is, is I went to the same intermediate school that my sister is going to and we had typing class every year from 4th to 6th grade, so that means they cut the class! As a gamer, and all-around computer user, I found this appalling. In today's society, being able to type is an almost required skill. You use it for everything from typing school papers, to writing emails. So what do you guys think, Should it be manditory school curriculum to teach students to type? and if not, why do you think not? Also how many of you "peck" keys, and how many of you actually type? Thanks in advance!

  • Long time to format hard drive?

Ok, So I just bought a 2tb external hard drive, and I was setting it up in disk management, and forgot to select the "Quick format" checkbox, and its now telling me that the approximated time until the format finishes is 28 HOURS. I cannot wait that long, is there any way to stop the format without risk of damaging the drive, or do I just have to wait this out? the hdd is connected via USB 2.0 port.

  • Xbox 360 won't move files off of my flash drive?

Ok, I have just started using my Xbox 360-S after 4 or 5 months of it being off. everything seemed to be running fine, I could play games fine and everything, until I noticed that a lot of my files on my flash drive were corrupt. Taking this with a bit of sadness, I deleted the corrupted gamesaves and started to move what was left of the files on to a different (and working) 16gb flash drive. the transfer was going fine until the end. The xbox said that some files could not be transferred at this time, and told me that only 6 of the 11 files on the original flash drive were able to be moved to my new flash drive. The odd thing is, all 11 of those files were uncorrupted. thinking that this might be a bug when moving a large amount of data at one time, I tried to transfer each file on its own, but none of the remaining 5 files could be moved, about halfway through moving each file, an error would come up saying "this action could not be performed at this time" and to "try again later". I turned my console off and back on again, and it still would not transfer the files! What is going on here? is my flash drive dying? are the files corrupted? Why cant I transfer these files off of my old flash drive and onto a new one? Any helpful insight would be awesome! (also, it seems to be that only files larger than 100MB can't be moved, because the only files that can't be moved are very large, Map packs, DLC, ect.) (Also, I'm not using a Microsoft certified flash drive, its just a Sandisk one).

  • iPod Touch 4th Generation Wont Connect to WiFi?

Ok, Just yesterday my ipod touch was able to connect to my wifi and internet fine. but I woke up this morning, and turned on my ipod, and found that it was unable to connect to my wifi. It detects my network, and is listed in available networks, but when i try to connect, the wheel just spins and spins, and acts like its trying to connect, but even after 30 min of just letting it try and connect, nothing happens. I've ran through all the usual stuff, reset my router, unplug it and plug it back in, check for updates (which I did find, I updated the router's firmware to the latest version, but the iPod was still unable to connect), reset network settings on the iPod, all of it. I even disabled all security on my Wifi to see if that was the problem, still nothing. Have any of you ever had this happen to you, and if so how did you fix it? I am a pretty techy guy so ALL reccomendations are welcome.

  • Fix Wireless Router Firmware Error?

Ok, so yesterday, I was performing a firmware update for my families wireless router, I checked the Hardware version and the version of the firmware, The hardware version was 8.30 and the firmware version was 8.23. I figured that since both were Version 8, they would be compatible, but apparently they were not, because immediately after I updated the firmware, and it said "Update Complete" My router stopped broadcasting any wireless signal, and would not let me connect via ethernet cable, So obviously I messed something up, and badly. So how could I, if possible, reset the firmware to default or clear the firmware (Like resetting the CMOS/BIOS settings on a PC) If this is not possible, I will just use my warranty and get a new wireless router. Thanks for the help guys!

  • Blue Screen on Bootup?

I installed a Socket FM2 Biostar motherboard (Hi-Fi A85W) and matching AMD A10-5800k Processor as an upgrade to my old Intel system. Upon installing all components, and making sure everything was connected and installed correctly, I booted up the computer only to be greeted with a blue screen error (STOP: 0x0000007b). After researching the stop code I figured out that it was due to the computer not being able to boot correctly off of the hard drive. I have tried everything. I have booted from the recovery partition and have run CHKDSK multiple times ( using /f and /r ), all reporting no problems with the drive. I have checked and the BIOS is up to date (Version A85BC918, released on 2012-09-18). I highly doubt thats its a virus that is affecting the MBR, about 20 minutes before the hardware install, I made sure that my computer would successfully boot, and it did. I have exhausted all tools at my command, I just cant figure out what is keeping me from booting, the only thing that I can imagine is a faulty chipset, or some sort of driver issue that is preventing the hard drive from initializing. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. (If it means anything, My HDD is SATA II but my motherboard only has connectors for SATA III)

  • PCIe 1.1 vs. PCIe 3.0?

Ok, I just bought a video card that supports PCIe 3.0 (Nvidia GTX 650 Ti) But my motherboard only supports PCIe 1.1 (Socket 775 :P) Will there be any major slowdown of the video card because of the "slowness" of the data transport on the PCIe slot? Should I consider buying a new motherboard? (I know I should, but this ASUS has been such a workhorse, I've had it since 2009, and it hasn't failed once) And If I should, do you guys have any suggestions (I would like to stay with ASUS, but if there are any other good brands you know of, I would appreacate the suggestion) Thanks guys!

  • AMD Phenom II Or Intel Core i3?

Ok, so I am upgrading my rig from an old socket 775 Core 2 Duo @ 1.8GHz (So really either of these processors would be an upgrade :P ) And I am split between these two processors, The AMD Phenom II x4 965 Or the Intel Core i3 3225. Both of these processors look good, but I am leaning more towards the AMD Processor because of the higher number of physical cores, and higher clock speed, as well as lower price, It seems as if the AMD CPU would be a no-brainer, but I have heard that even an i3 can outpreform something like this, I don't know how, but If somebody could explain which one of these processors I should choose and why, it would be a huge help, I don't want to have saved up and then spent it on junk... Here are the actual processors :

  • Ubuntu Hangs During Install?

Ok so I tried putting Ubuntu on my laptop to replace Windows 7. Somewhere near the end of the first installation, my computer shut off unexpectedly. To my horror, I desprately tried to install Ubuntu again, hoping that the install would go ok this time. But during the part where it checks your specs (if you have enough hard drive space, an internet connection, ect) and asks you to install updates, along with some third party software, when I click next, it just hangs. No matter what I do, it just sits there with the spinning wait icon (I sat there and waited for it to continue for like an hour). I can still move the mouse, and tell it to quit installation or shut down and stuff, but it wont install. Any ideas? (BTW I'm installing 12.10)

  • Replacing Windows 7 With Ubuntu?

Ok, so over the years, my laptop has gotten slow, I mean REALLY slow. I purhcased the laptop in 2010, its a Compaq Presario CQ56. There's nothing wrong with the computer itself (I make sure to take very good care of all my computers) It runs well, but its just slow. So I downloaded an .ISO of the latest distro of Ubuntu, hoping that instaling it on my aging laptop would remedy the poor things condition, due to Ubuntu being lighterweight than 7. I moved all my important documents off of the internal HDD and on to an external HDD hoping to not delete anything important. I just have one question though, before I start the installation, If anything goes wrong with the installation, or I happen to not beome fond of Ubuntu, Can I reintsall Windows 7 on to the laptop, using the same product key that it was originally registered with? The only reason that I'm asking this is because I do not have the original recovery disc that came with the computer itself. I have an OEM copy of Windows 7 that I used to build my gaming PC. So can I intstall Windows 7 on to the laptop again from the OEM disc, and use the product key from the laptop to activate it? Would I have to call Microsoft and do some stuff with them to sort this out? or could I just preform a regular install, no strings attached? Will there be any driver issues? Will I have to do anything out of the ordanary to preform the install? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks guys!

  • How do I get a 75Hz or higher refresh rate?

Ok, I just bought a new monitor for my computer, I went in to control panel, and tried to change the monitor's refresh rate from 60 to 75 or anything higher, and it wouldn't let me, the other options were not available. I'm not sure why I can't get a higher refresh rate on my monitor, I'm using DVI-D Dual-Link to connect, not VGA, so thats not a problem, and the monitor is the Samsung SyncMaster S24B30BL. Any help with this problem is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Restore Underclocked CPU's Original Clock Speed?

OK, so I'm looking at buying a Core i7 2700K off of Ebay, most of them are around 250-300 bucks, but some of them are at 110-149 bucks because are underclocked. Now I know what underclocked means, but because this processor is cheaper, I want to buy it, but the big thing is, when I recieve the processor, will I be able to restore the processor to its originial clock speed? If so, how would I do it? Would I be required to change processor settings within the BIOS? Will I have to fiddle around with voltages and timings? As much information as possible please, I really don't want end up with a quad core i7 @ 1.8GHz :P

  • AMD Phenom II x6 or x4?

Ok so im going to upgrade my computers CPU, Im switching from Intel to AMD (I know, you dont hear that every day, im just sick and tired of Intel's bloated pricing) Im shooting to upgrade it to a Planetside 2 ready computer, just one question, The X6 has 6 cores running @ 2.7 Ghz, but the X4 has 4 cores running @ 3.4 Ghz, which one would be better for gaming? and if you dont think these are good, if you could make me a reccomendation for another CPU, that would be great, thanks!

  • Is this a good AMD processor?

Ok so ive recently made the switch from Intel to AMD (I can't stand having to haggle people on ebay just to get a decent Intel processor for less than 200 bucks anymore) and am looking for a high end processor to fit my gaming lifestyle. I mean like everything from Borderlands, Planetside 2, and Battlefield 3, to low power games like Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead. I have been looking around, and believe I have found the processor for me:

But then again, this is my first time buying from AMD, so I dont really know where I am or what i'm doing, so maybe some of you more AMD savvy gamers can help a newb out? any reccomendations are helpful and accepted.

  • Virus Download Links?

OK, so I know this sounds really sketchy, but hear me out. I'm trying to test some of the most popular antivirus software on the market today, and I need a reliable way to test it, So what I'm going to do is download Virtualbox, or some other desktop emulator, infect the s##t out of the virtual machine, and download and run the anti-virus software and see how well it cleans up the computer, the only problem is, its suprisingly hard to just straight-up download malware from the internet, so *chuckling* I need some links to malware sites, some of the nastiest stuff would be much appreciated, thanks.
