Which Medical Field is better? In my situation?
First, before I begin, let me start off by saying this. I've posted before but I just get a bunch of negative bulls**t I don't want to hear. I ask certain questions and get nothing but being called an idiot. I know what I'm doing and what I need is direction of what I need to get.
Okay, I've been debating a lot lately on what to do. Many of what I want to do seems to be either a bad idea or a bad choice by job wise. I live in Sevierville, Tennessee. I use to go to a Community College called Walters State Community College. This school is based on a first time taken of a class. If you don't get a good grade the first time you're pretty much screwed. I've spoke with the advisor for the Program and she told me to either go get my LPN first or choose a different career. I told her I want to be an RN, she told me I could go to a private school and I could get in that way 'cause there is no waiting list, reason being is 'cause no one wants to pay $35,000-$55,000 for a ASN. So, I looked into the LPN, it's really cheap. Maybe $5,200 for the year and that's it. My schooling there is completely paid for. I would actually get paid to go. I was thinking of doing this, but the only outcome I have is a retirement home and I do not like working with old people. I've done CNA and I will never do that line of work for the sh*t pay. The RN will cost too much for me to get, I know you have loans and stuff but I don't see a reason in being in debt for life to pay it off.. I enrolled into two colleges. ETSU and LMU and got excepted into both of the schools. I can only get my BSN from ETSU so I cut them off because LMU does a ASN and a BSN and MSN. So, I tried them and the tuition was way too damn much.
So, My may goal here was to either do LPN or Surgical Tech. I don't really want to be a LPN, but I know there are bridge programs from LPN-BSN which don't help with anything at all. LPN is basically just an extra year of schooling when I could just become a Surgical Tech and then do the RN and let the Hospital pay for it later. I know the Surgical Tech has a lot of goods and bads, but I think all jobs do. I'm not sickened by the sight of the insides, I've shadowed multiple times and loved it. The only thing that really sucks is the pay isn't too good, but I know you can earn more by working more, which is okay with me. I know you gotta build yourself in the place and not expect all this handed to you. My main out come I really liked was working with dead people. Seems weird, but I have a bad attitude by being talked down too. I have bipolar, so I thought of going for Surgical Tech and then becoming a Human Tissue Recovery Tech. I thought it would be awesome, but the job says on some requirements they want a AS in Surgical Tech. I hope the Surgical Tech certification will be okay, I sure it will be. I'm lost obviously.
Thank you everyone. I mainly wanted to do the Dental Hygienist but I was told by that Adviser too that I messed up and my only chance was to do the BSN to make my GPA higher. So I am confused about what to do. I really don't know, and I did have a bad experience I believe. I do know that I would prefer going to school for only a year or two because I have 2 children that are a handful and can't work that much going through school so It would have to be quick.
dental hygienist - $67,000 - Is what I wanted to do because of the times, but in my area it's hard to find a job as a male. I was going to get my RDA first but they said they have never seen a male go to the class, so I was a little worried on it.
diagnostic sonographer - $62,000 - This sounds nice, but the closest school from me that is accredited is about 5 hours away and I cannot relocate.
respiratory therapist - $58,000 - This is in ICU type jobs which resembles long care type jobs and critical care which is not for me.
physical therapist assistant - $56,000 - This would be a good one too, but I was told by the advisor to the local Community Colleges closest to me that they take only the first grade which ruins my chance.
radiologic tech - $65,000 - There are no jobs in this in my area. I can't ever see any being hired and also cannot see any postings at all.
I could go for Dental Hygiene at a 4 year because of my terrible chances of community colleges accepting me. My biggest fear was to waste my time, which would be me going to school and getting all good grades now and bringing up my GPA. Then not get in 'cause I messed up or it's not high enough. They did say if I got my BS in Dental Hygiene I would have a lot better of a chance going into it. I mainly liked this field because it seemed more relaxed and also seemed very stable 8-5 type mon-fri which is what I'd like because when kids go to school I'll be at work and won't have to pay for sitting.

It sounds like the "core" of your dilemma is that you really are not sure exactly what you want to do.
In the area I reside, the bulk of LPN positions are in nursing homes, assisted living and clinics. And nurses have to work with patients of all ages in the hospital and clinic setting. I am not sure whether in your case it is truly that you don't want to work with older patients/residents, or perhaps you just had bad experienced where you worked as a CNA?
I was curious of the number of jobs in human tissue recovery, so I did a job search using indeed. And, there were only a handful positions nationwide, and all of them were per diem and part time.

My opinion based on reading your post is that you would want to figure out what you want to do. And whether or not you are willing to relocate for jobs. Then do job searches in the geographic location you are wanting to work, which will give you a sense of what jobs are out there and available. And this may not even be the case.....but if you having problems with how you may respond to be talked to in certain ways, then definitely work on that. As you know from working as a CNA...........staff, patients, and family could "talk" to you in certain ways which are not always going to be "please and thank you". If you can't handle this......then you will definitely end up reacting in a way that would probably be a quick exit of employment. In a surgical situation in the OR as you know surgery is serious business..........so people aren't going to be saying "please hand me that, please hand me this".
I am slightly confused because you said "I could go for Dental Hygiene at a 4 year because of my terrible chances of community colleges accepting me." Community Colleges are typically easier to get into than 4 year Universities. So, if you feel that you can't get accepted into a community college, then whatever is the reasons for that isn't going to be better in trying to get into a 4 year University.

You seem to have a bad attitude overall. Sorry, but if you can't handle being treated like an adult, then you absolutely cannot go into health care. If you react to physicians who correct you or yell at you by swearing at them and throwing a temper tantrum, you will be pulled out of your room, sent home, and fired once your termination paperwork is put through.
Put frankly, I think it's time to look outside of healthcare for something that doesn't require education and where you only have to do minimal answering to a boss. Maybe construction, trash collection, or another pretty good paying fairly independent job?
To reiterate what I told you last time (and it's not bullish!t btw) it would be incredibly stupid to pay $30,000+ for a degree that you are unlikely to be able to use since ADN RNs are usually only hired in lower level jobs or with extensive experience. Add to that your inability to deal with superiors, and it will be $30,000 that you could be spending on counseling for your kids and for a different skill that you can use.
Physicians aren't there to kid glove you. In your last question, you didn't get the answers that you wanted, so here you are swearing and throwing a fit. How do you think that's going to go over when you are n a room with a type a god complex cardiac surgeon? Hint: it's not.
Edit: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArnnB...
Your past question pretty much says it all about why you won't succeed in health care.
Given all that's gone on in the past few weeks, your behavior will not be tolerated by any kind of decent professional employer. You are the type of person i am scared to be around and I would not want you anywhere near my OR, my clinic, or any of my peers and colleagues.
You need to take a menial job and spend some time getting your head on straight. Once you can cope with your anger issues, then perhaps your past college grades will have expired and you can start again with a clean slate and clear head.
I think that you should be focusing on your health and making sure that you aren't damaging your children before you even begin considering nursing school.

Justin don't become an LVN unless that's what you really want to do because you'll do little actual nursing, get low pay and it won't help you to become a RN. It sounds like you prefer a career than only takes 2 years (Associate degree) but pays pretty well. I don't know what salary a Surgical Tech makes but there are several jobs you can get with an Associate degree that pay very well. Here's a list -
dental hygienist - $67,000
diagnostic sonographer - $62,000
respiratory therapist - $58,000
physical therapist assistant - $56,000
radiologic tech - $65,000

No. The better the revenue , the more time and the extra education. Lots of the backside of the greater earners want as a minimum 7 years. (pharmacy, PA, NP, CRNA, and so on) and in most cases expertise as good. Not up to 5 years is pretty much a bachelors degree.

I have many relatives that are nurses. LPN pays less and is less interesting than surgical tech. My rels say there are a lot more options than those 2 jobs like dental hygenist, pharma tech, etc...
do more research...
Congrats on your initiative. Good research efforts.
Complete thorough realistic research to achieve life sustaining income. Maybe accounting, engineering, law, medicine, computers, .... Always get job descriptions with course requirements from employers, unions, certification groups/associations. Don’t sign up for education till you’ve done this, EVER!!!
Pick a path where you don't start working bankrupt with debt. Don't become another casualty of the Trillion$ student debt. You must earn enough, $200k+ to support a family in a major City. Do not low ball your life and your family. If you can't find work volunteer to get in the door. Try volunteering at good potential employers and go down from there to community service, but get in anywhere and start working/networking, even if it’s for free. Be a model worker, no yapping, internet, cell phone..start work 30 minutes early and end work 30 minutes after day's end. Keep learning from more courses, read books, get another language, etc.
There are almost 50 million people on food stamps, ~20% of males 25 to 54 yrs not working, lowest SATs in 40 years, debt to GDP over 100%, 25% of global prison inmates with only 5% of global population, etc, and what’s uncle Sam’s answer to America's problem, which impacts the rest of the planet? Corrupt political paralysis and meteoric debt plague spiking by adding a trillion dollars of debt in 2013 to criminally prop up financial markets artificially. What a mess we live in!
You are On Your Own. YOYO's the word. Never forget it. Take control of your own lives and ignore whatever fictional solutions the politicians and corporate bobble heads throw around as their self-profiteering benevolence.
Abandon obese consumer spending debt addiction culture and resulting self-enslavement. Cut your lifestyle in half or less of the destructive unrealistic American dream nightmare standard....small house or apt..one car or no car .. always have a second job cause the one you have can/will disappear ...save and invest over 50% of your income if you can .... stay with your parents....parents move in with your kids...Rent with friends...rent rooms in your home ..Live like the wage you make today could be the last you'll earn, always. Stay away from Ponzi’s, addictions, unhealthy lifestyles, get rich scams, online rip offs and purple Kool-Aid cults.
Most of all maintain constructive positive relationships and forward planning. Have fun at it without spending money. What you want to do is great but do it with a strong dose of reality and caring for your future, family and community. Good luck! Cheers:).
