Do conservatives still believe in a flat tax system?
Currently America has a progressive tax system where you pay a higher rate for larger sums if money. However some conservatives seem to think that e have one flat rate, or that we should.
Or do they want the Arab route. More income, less taxes.

A flat tax would more "fair" than a progressive system...but then, anything "progressive" is, by nature, dishonest and unfair.

A true conservative is not a libertarian. A true liberal is a libertarian, and the answer which states otherwise is factually incorrect. Also, progressive income taxes, which promote middle-income growth, are less 'big-government' than sales taxes and tariffs, which discourage trade.
By conservative, do you mean 'right-winger' or 'traditionalist?' They aren't the same.
I don't know what the current stance of all traditionalists is on progressive income taxes, but they are more feasible than the others. The extreme ones, though, talk about small government a lot and bring the opposite.

A flat tax was passed by Congress in 1894 but was ruled unconstitutional one year later by our Supreme Court. Our first tax was actually passed in 1861 to pay for the Civil War and 10 years later was stopped.
Our 16th Amendment for tax collection was passed by Congress in 1909 and ratified in 1913. A progressive tax scale was the original scale with the lowest rate being 1% and the highest rate being 7%. America has had a progressive tax scale every since then with a number of different lowest rates and highest rates.

The idea is appealing on paper, but it does put too much a burden on the poorer families. A better system would be to reduce the number of brackets and reduce loopholes and deductions. It is simpler and people/small businesses don't need to hire accountants and pay exorbitant amounts of money to make sure that the IRS won't be breathing down their neck, making it easy for everyone to pay taxes, reducing error and fraud.
