  • How to escape car addiction?

I am what you call a car enthusiast. And after realizing the time and brain power it consumes of my life, I realized that it was a bad thing.

Seriously, every time I look at a road, I catch myself identifying every single car in view. That is not good.

I can not go cold turkey, since every road I see revives my hated addiction. The occasional Ferrari gets my heart racing no matter how hard I try to control it. Even watching TV puts me into the dreaded car ads.

And now, I have withdrawal symptoms. Every car dealership I see, every car that I can recognize makes me sad. While I am on the road, I feed depressed knowing the specs of all the cars whizzing by. The occasional Ferrari now makes me sigh instead of giggle in ecstasy.

The creepiest thing is that nobody realizes this addiction. All who go in never come back out, and are damned for life. All who aren't enthusiasts never see the addiction of those who are.

I'm starting to think that this is the worst addiction of modern society.

  • best graphics card for 2560x1600?

What is the best graphics card for a screen with such a high resolution?

To be fair, I will not be gaming at this res, and will only need a board that is able to handle all of these pixels for everyday browsing and office work, along with some video watching. When I feel the want to game, I will lower the res to about standard 1080p or something sane.

  • modern graphics card equivalent to 9800gt?

I currently own two NVIDIA Geforce 9800gt card in sli.

What would be the modern NVIDIA 6xx equivalent to these cards?

Will a single card have better performance than my ancient SLI setup?

  • How powerful is this computer today?

3 ghz Intel core 2 duo

    8 gigs ddr2 ram

    Win 7 ult

    10k rpm hard disk

    2tb data drive

Nvidia 9800 gt x2 in sli

(it is an upgraded Dell xps 630i)

It works well for me, my question is when will this former beast become worthy if an upgrade for modern parts.

It used to be a gamer, but with the weak graphics and 1600p screen that I use, I don't game much anymore. I want a fast PC capable of modern programs and decent adobe work.

  • Intel haswell vs nvidia gt650m?

Supposedly the upcoming haswell graphics can match the speed and performance of nvidia's popular laptop gt3e chip. That's all good until you realize that nvidia's best feature is their optimus technology which allows the user to switch off the power hungry nvidia, and use the energy efficient Intel integrated graphics instead. This leads me to my main question. Can the haswell gt3/gt3e chip under low loads have the same or better power efficiency as the ivy bridge Intel graphics? And if not, what is the benefit of it compared to nvidia chips?

  • How good is widows backup?

Windows backup uses a system image, whatever that means, that somehow manages to compress an entire system and save it. Does this degrade the quality of media files? How reliable is the recovery? Are there usually errors or failures?

  • Why do conservatives and liberals never debate?

Conservatives and liberals spend their effort finding unbelievable bad opinions on the other side and generalizing it to everyone. Out they fabricate nonsense and blabber it a truth. Their politics consist of taking with fellow idiots and confirming these lies. This is very true on Yahoo answers.

In real politics politicians focus on fake advertisements and filibusters and supporting weird lobbyists. They plead with the public before even looking at the opposition.

One thing is the same between these two. They voluntarily meet with the opposition. Reps and dems rarely meet and only if is mandatory. They prefer running on prejudice alone. Why? Why?

  • What does Adobe Acrobat do?

Lets see how much Acrobat costs... ~$800 or so? ~$180 with my student discount? What the hell does it do? I have a very old Acrobat 6 which I used for combining/splitting PDFs and printing stuff to make them PDFs, but now it doesn't work with new fancy windows 7,8. I really don't feel like shelling out big bucks for just those functions. What else can Acrobat do? BTW, don't give me alternatives, I'm sick of new free software, and if I must give up these features, so be it.

  • do allergy steroid nasal sprays enhance sports performance?

So I have some moderate allergies, that get better if I take some Claritin (Loratadine) and Rhinocourt Aqua prescription nasal corticosteroid spray (budesonide). I'm not so good at sports, but am training to get better. Today, my allergies seemed annoying so I took a dose of spray + Claritin, and felt better, I also seemed to be able to run better. Do allergy steroids enhance sports performance? Or is this just a normal training effect. If the spray gives me even a slight advantage, I'd like to stop it immediately. But also want to continue to use it because it helps my allergies.

Yes, I do know that they are "legal" but do they give me an advantage?

  • Best nvidia card for 1600p?

I have a Dell ultra sharp monitor which is awesome but very demanding on hardware. I currently run 9800gt x2 in sli, and it seems a bit weak. I want to do some racing gaming, no super action violent stuff, while also doing some adobe editing on Photoshop, illustrator, and premiere pro. Any card with a decent price is good. My current ideas are...

    1) zotac gtx 570 (mercury engine, maybe 2 in sli)

    2)(some brand) gtx 670

Please tell me the card with the best performance, but cheap enough so I can spend it on other stuff.

  • What is the best nvidia card for...?

Adobe cs6 Photoshop premiere pro illustrator stuff. Mild gaming. 2560 x1600 display.

More specifically I'd like to work with avchd, and only mild usage for Photoshop/illustrator.

Should I buy a gtx 570 and take advantage of mercury, or go to the newer 600 series and forget about it. No hacks.

  • what is the best new GTX 570 card?

I want Adobe Mercury hardware rendering. Quaddro chips cost as much as the entire US budget. 600 series chips aren't supported. So I must buy a GTX 570 card as a best balance. I also want to play some games, very few though, nothing too intense, mostly driving games. 2560x1600 res. Trusted retailer, new if possible.

  • How can humans survive this fate?

All natural and technological processes proceed in such a way that the availability of the remaining energy decreases. In all energy exchanges, if no energy enters or leaves an isolated system the entropy of that system increases. Energy continuously flows from being concentrated to becoming dispersed spread out, wasted and useless. New energy cannot be created and high grade energy is being destroyed. An economy based on endless growth is unsustainable.

The fundamental law of thermodynamics will placed fixed limits on technological innovation and human advancement. In an isolated system the entropy can only increase. A species set on endless growth is unsustainable.

  • What is the best modern ultraportable laptop?

Hello, I currently own a Sony Vaio SZ ultraportable notebook, which is showing some age. It is a light, powerful laptop with an optical drive. I am currently looking to replace it with a modern product, preferably a PC, since I am used to them, and MAC OS drives me nuts. I am looking at the Vaio T and S, which are underwhelming to me. S has no touchscreen (bad for Win 8?) T has no graphics and seems to have a weak version of the intel i7 CPU.

What matters to me is: (in order)

    1) Power (Performance, Speed)(No whimpy CPUs and other chips.)

    2) Ergonomics (touch with win.8)(easy to use switches, keys)

    3) Reliability (nothing breaks please, high quality, no bad parts)

    4) Weight (lightness)

    5) Screen (Full HD) (good quality is a must)

    6) Attached software (kill them all!)

    7) CD drive (I want one)

Also, should I wait for the new intel HASWELL chips, which promise to provide superior power efficiency along with powerful graphics that rival dedicated cards? Or should I pull the trigger now? Also, do you think that Sony would release a Vaio S in the future with touch?

  • What is a good stereo or 2.1 sound system?

I am not an audio enthusiast or audiophile, but I can tell the difference between good sound and great sound. Mostly I will listen to CD (quality) digital music, and use the speakers for TV and Bluray/DVD usage. Sort of like home theatre, but audio focused.

Currently, I have a Bang & Olufsen CD-Tape player with integrated speakers. They sound fantastic, as they did cost a pretty penny. I actually don't know how much it costs since my parents bought it a long time ago. But even this awesome piece of machinery is showing age and wear. As for my TV, I recently bought a super-slim Toshiba with murder-quality audio, and for my PC I have some Dell surround 5.1 system that sounds worse than the compact BO. Decent though.

So what should I upgrade to? I am looking for some quality stereo, and I hope that a moderately priced real system can provide better sound than my ancient BO combo. But what do I need? Stero + amp + preamp + reciever + player or some combo of those wierd words? Oh, and please make it a system that I can use with a normal power plug, no custom power please.

Finally, all I want is really good sound. Nothing over the top with hour long custom tweaking or something. Please give me a simple system that can sound great without audiophile skill needed. As for price, I have no idea, but I'd like to stay in the three digits category, but 2,500 is the absolute max if it is really necessary. Oh, and preferably Japanese, since I'm biased like that. Or European with some fancy name. Nothing made in China or USA. Ignore the last three points.

  • Do conservatives still believe in a flat tax system?

Currently America has a progressive tax system where you pay a higher rate for larger sums if money. However some conservatives seem to think that e have one flat rate, or that we should.

Or do they want the Arab route. More income, less taxes.

  • Why are conservatives so angry?

By the names you'd expect that liberals are fire breathing monsters, and conservatives are calm shy moderate silent fellows. Its rather the opposite as I see it.
