I currently own two NVIDIA Geforce 9800gt card in sli.
What would be the modern NVIDIA 6xx equivalent to these cards?

Look mostly at 'processing power' and 'memory bandwidth'.

As you can see it's more complicated than just nVidia 6xx.
You need to know nVidia 6xx - with what kind of RAM onboard.
