Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool (HOV) lane?

I guess it's a general question about any vehicle with a dead person; my guess is a cremated person wouldn't count.

It worked for me. Long story short, my grandma died and I was carrying her to the crematory. I put the corpse on the front seat, as it was a two-door car. The person came to check and saw my grandma and said it was okay, then I went on as usual.

Lol nope, sincerely being a Mortician we don't particularly get any precise privileges in relation to the principles of the road unless we've police escorts. Trust me i've been pulled over riding a hearse.

Unless there is a living passenger there is only one soul on board. It would be pretty pointless anyway - imagine a hearse using a lane that the funeral procession could not use.
