My check engine light went off after I went over a bump?
My check engine light was on indicating that the temperature sensor needed to be replaced. This happened five days after I drove my used 2008 Ford Focus off the used car lot. They offered to fix it and I was planning on doing so after Christmas. But yesterday morning I was driving somewhere and hit a speed bump a little faster than I normally do, and the light went off. And although I have been over several more speed bumps ever since, the light has not come back on. Should I continue to wait and see if the light comes back on? If it doesn't, should I assume the whole thing was a fluke and it didn't really need to be replaced?
If it comes back on I fully intend on having the code read again to make sure it's the same issue and not a brand new one.

It may be that the light just happened to turn itself off at that time. Some codes will reset themselves based on various things like hours, miles, and starts. A flashing check engine light usually means that the problem is serious and or happening at all the time. A steady light usually means the problem is no longer happening or its a more minor problem. It may have just been time for it to reset itself because the problem was no longer happening and enough time, miles, or starts had passed.
If the dealer is willing to still look at it and maybe help with the repair I would still bring it to them. The code will still be stored in the system so they will be able to check it and see what it was even if its not still a problem. Temp sensors are usually not that expensive and are easy to test.

I would continue driving, hoping it was just a flaky connection to the sensor that got jarred into place. Merry Christmas!
