    "..to the death"..?

    No.

The only thing I would defend to my possible death would be if a person attempted to kill me/violently assault me-kind of thing.

Why did you HAVE TO add "to the death" into the equation?

Public disobedience hardly means you get killed for standing up for the rights of somebody downtrodden.

The truth is that many of us will be observers first and see how the person is faring on their own.

Generally, nobody bullies anybody just stating their opinions from a soapbox.

If you think the speaker is obnoxious, you will probably walk away.

Would you defend that persons right to be obnoxious if others listening to him starts pelting him with rotten tomatoes?

  • It depends on what kind of free speech. If someone was calling another person bad names, or something to this affect... no I would not. If it came to someone speaking out and against someone like the westboro baptists... say if they were at a persons loved ones funeral, saying stuff like - God killed your husband, wife, child etc, because you support gays or whatever reason, then yes, if they were in no shape to defend themselves (and they were forced to, for self defense purposes) I would physically fight for them. If it came down to losing my life, I would probably keep fighting. I would defend someones freedom of speech in cases similar to this reason. I'm not in the military... if I were, I would definitely fight for everyone in my country's right to freedom of speech, no matter what it was about. I would defend to the death, the right to freedom of speech. It is that important to me.

Edit: I would NOT defend the Westboros freedom of speech, BUT I would defend the victims free speech to them, at the funeral.

If it was someone like Fred Phelps, hell no. But if it was a desperate homeless man trying to get a message across, or a protestor for a good cause being beaten savagely by cops (or other more extreme protestors), I'd step in, but I wouldn't go into it thinking that I'm about to die. So if that were to happen, it wouldn't be a result of my defending their rights, it would be a result of me stepping in on their behalf.

Hundreds of thousands have, in the United States military.

... but I am on the verge of wanting to take it away from liberal, anti-gun, pro illegal immigrant newspapers!

You need to ask those men and women in uniform who have done just that. No one not in uniform not even our politicians are obligated to do such.

    Think about it!
