Ubuntu and floppy drives?

I have ubuntu 12.10 on my Aspire one happy netbook but it does not recognize my usb floppy drive the drive is recognized by my main computer which runs windows 7 is there any way to fix this problem ?

    Drivers. Strange because it recognizes any normal usb storage devices just fine. How old is this floppy drive? If it is modern then it should use the same interface as any storage device and Ubuntu would never be aware if it was accessing a hard drive, floppy, or solid state thumb drive.
