Can anyone help me with information on this damascus steel knife?
Hi I recently bought a Mammoth Ivory and Damascus Medium Congress knife. The knife itself seems very thin and it seems like i can bend it with my own hands. I do not know alot about Damascus steel knives but is it supposed to be this thin? How many layers of Damascus steel exactly make up these knives?
The knife can be found here:

If it's an authentic Case knife, you won't be able to bend it without maybe snapping it first. Yes, the blade is supposed to be thin - it's the style of knife and how the blade was designed and ground - it has nothing to do with the blade steel used in its production. Layer count could be anything... It's Devin Thomas Raindrop Damascus so it should be good to go. If it's high-contrast damascus, then one of the steels that comprises it has a very high nickel content and by itself would be a terrible blade steel... so take it for what it's worth... it's nice to look at, but I wouldn't be using it for any serious work.

I think I see the problem. The maker of the blades calls himself Thomas Damascus. So the seller can call it Damascus steel even though that probably doesn't mean what you think it means. I seriously doubt he is beating and folding such thin blades on an anvil. Can't be because once you factor in the mammoth handle and the manufacturing costs, retail markup, etc, someone who can make Damascus steel is not going to work for less than minimum wage.

There is no etched in stone limit to how many layers in damascus steel. There can be a million and even though that sounds impossible... .it is possible. Just take your calculator and starting with one doubling the result every time and you will reach a million faster than you think. Just fold the million layers and bingo!.. you have two million. After all that then you decide what is practical. 16 folds,32,64......could go on forever if you kept them thin and have the experience to do it.
So,what comes into the picture is that unique design you are happy with and that is the stopping place. My final answer is; Only your blacksmith knows... providing he kept count.
How thin or thick depends on the machinery that is used if done in a production shop.

Handcrafted folding knife English tip, blade of Damascus metal mannequin Rose, 2,5mm thickness, no liners, teja spring decorated by using metal file and billet surrounded of stainless steel. A Damascus blade knife is characterised by using a wavy, mottled appearance on the blade that’s triggered through the process used to shape the steel. The system of making Damascus steel is derived from a centuries-ancient forging method used to create blades that grew to be nearly legendary in their popularity for strength and sharpness it was once said a Damascus knife might cut by means of a rifle barrel as good as through a hair falling on the blade.
