Did you know that there is a scientific explanation for the human soul and afterlife?

It is based on a quantum theory of consciousness Dr. Stuart Hameroff and British physicist Sir Roger Penrose have developed that holds that "the essence of our soul is contained inside structures called microtubules within brain cells... Thus it is held that our souls are more than the interaction of neurons in the brain. They are in fact constructed from the very fabric of the universe - and may have existed since the beginning of time."

You aren't going to hear about that on MSNBC.

Update:

For those who asked, here are some other sources:

I didn't say that I subscribe to this particular theory. The point is that human beings just don't know enough about reality to conclude that nothing continues beyond death. We are just goldfish in a big bowl, still wondering what's outside.

Now you see if the fundamentalist nutcases were to abandon their insistence on the literal truth of the bible, information like this could give them a deeper and more realistic faith.

I think Dr Hameroff is feeling his mortality. Dr. Hameroff's qualifications are that he is an anesthesiologist, NOT a neuroscientist or physicist.

Sir Roger Penrose has nothing to say about consiousness being an enduring phenomenom separate from the brain.

    Note: Near-death experience, not after-death.

The microtubules do NOT "lose their quantum state", it becomes randomized. If that happens, you are dead.

I would -love- for this to be true. I want to go on a tour of all time and space, looking into the core of stars and watching life form and evolve on other planets. I want to have time and brainpower to eventually understand everything.

If there's any scientific evidence for ghosts, i am scarcely conscious of it. I am a skeptic, and that i do not think in ghosts. - The planet earth is a significant capacitor, fully scientific, and the human awareness is vigor. Whilst you die the earth absorbs your your vigour and depending upon a few thousand different reasons, that you may bee noticeable y some persons. It simply appears extraordinary to me that some atheists consider in ghosts, but reject God. Why? - considering the fact that one makes excellent shrewd, logical and scientific feel and one is a fable. Well, the proof for ghosts may be very questionable. It are not able to be proven by way of scan - I agree, now not at this point. If someone rejects God, they have to additionally reject the afterlife. Correct? - not necessarily, I do not forget a scientific/Swedenorgian variant of an after lifestyles fully plausible.

I've spent about 10 minutes looking around about this. The only place I can find it is that article. Which is just ridiculous. 2 scientist say 2 sentences and you believe it? I will grant you that the it's an interesting theory but so far it's not based on anything really. It's just wishful thinking.

    Nope.

Sorry, not buying it without looking into exactly what they are saying about exactly which structure ...

The Daily Mail is about as far from a legitimate source of scientific evidence as the National Enquirer is. Neither is well known for printing anything close to the truth.

i dont understand why people use the word 'quantum' as an excuse to get mystical about science.

Quantum physics is the study of the motion of subatomic particles. That is all. Whatever models they build...'mystical' or not...is for the purpose of the predictive power they offer toward the motion of subatomic particles. There is no philosophical truth only measurement and mathematics.

This doesnt explain the afterlife part. Also of course it makes up the fabric of the universe since we are part of it.

Yet quantum consciousness hold no scientific basis other than wishful thinking and is in fact not considered a theory.

We aren't going to hear about ANYTHING sane on MSNBC. Look at the science channel, or ONE of them. But notice they only SAID 'soul'. They didn't DEFINE 'soul'. I know many different definitions of 'soul' already.

Wow. Just think if it is something people think that they can make in a test tube.

Would that be crazy, or what?
