Seniors - Do you remember Charles Durning?
He passed away at the age of 89. I loved his acting.
Do you recall this scene - in this fun movie?

Durning was always one of my favorites. He was absolutely believable as a cop or as a crook. (Or as both.) I especially liked him in the 1981 Joan Didion / John Gregory Dunne masterpiece "True Confessions," where he played a Los Angeles businessman voted "Catholic Layman of the Year" who was also a racketeer involved in the murder of a hooker.
I did not know until I read his obituary that he was also an extraordinary World War II hero--a suicidally gutsy man who was among the first to land on Omaha Beach, where he was wounded, and then later also distinguished himself in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded again.
Glad to hear he made it to 89 and lived to enjoy many honors, including a Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I liked Charles Durning in every role he played. In Queen of the Stardust Ball I felt so bad for him at the end of the movie. He could dance and was so light on his feet for such a portly man. He was very endearing. Sorry to hear he passed away, but at least he lived to a ripe old age.

Yes, my favorite was Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, he was so good in that movie. The YouTube video wouldn't play, but I can see that it is that dancing scene from that movie. So good. Just read that he used to be a dance instructor many years ago.
RIP Mr. Durning, we'll miss you.

Yes, I remember the TV movie he made called Queen of the Stardust Ballroom. Very moving. He also did another program where he read actual letters by WW2 soldiers front the front.

Just watched "Oh Brother " again last Sunday.( He portrayed Pappy O'Daniel). I mentioned to my wife that he was the most decorated ' living' WWII veteran. I'm not sure if that is true, but I heard his good friend, Burt Reynolds, say so on a talk show, so I accept it.

Yes I remember him and I loved him also as a character actor. He reminded me a lot of the actor Brian Dennehy. I liked him in the Queen of the Stardust Ball.
