What would happen if my pitbull kills a dog that got into my backyard?
My pit hasn't killed another dog yet. But this morning my mom wakes me up and says, "I had to rush home because I got a call from the neighbor that their dogs were in our backyard and i didn't know if Savannah (my pit) was out." Now, my dog is not aggressive in any way but towards other animals. We just can't figure out why she don't like other animals. But any way, if my pit was out and had killed the other dogs, could any legal action be taken by my neighbor or being that my dog killed their dog on the property I'm staying (renting) is it like she (my pit) was protecting the perimeter of the house?

"We just can't figure out why she don't like other animals."
Pit bulls are *supposed* to be aggressive toward other dogs and small animals. It's genetic. She's simply being a normal pit bull.

As long as your dog remains on your (rented) property, no legal action can be taken against you. However, if your dog goes outside your yard, even briefly, during the fight, that would be another story.
If you don't have a reliable fence, I suggest you buy/build a proper dog run for when you have your dog outside and don't have time to watch her. Otherwise, don't leave her outside unattended.

Call you regional information stations and inform them to cover the story. Someone could of have heard or noticed somethng.. Or find out about prior incidents with the canine. They may be able to appear at bite marks and blood on the pets to assess who the offender was once however they do that most mostly in human fatalities. When you get new puppies, perhaps that you could install security cameras. Probably you could trick the person, too and say you have got witnesses to the assault , or say a neighbor's digicam caught the canine going into your yard and if he would not purchase you new chihuahuas you will call the police. This might work you probably have an adjacent neighbor with you. Then you will see if comes easy. Pitbull house owners that take off after a mauling are original. A woman in Arizona watched her dog get mauled through an off leash pitbull in Copper Basin park in Anthem . The pitbull proprietor gave her a false title and address and she is caught with the charges. She is taking her story on-line to check out to search out the pitbull proprietor. Just right success and seek out online sources for aid as this is very tense and upsetting. Look up The stroll for Victims of Pitbulls on fb

Is your yard securely fenced? If your yard is not securely fenced and your dog gets out, you would be libel for any damage or injuries. On the other hand, if your neighbors dogs got into your yard, the situation may not be as conclusive, but your dog would mostly be off the hook. The best thing for you to do is begin socialization with other dogs. Get a strong harness. Walk your dog and make him focus on your whenever another dog is on the sidewalk. Best to keep your dog on the opposite side of the street in the early stages of this training. Use a treat to teach your dog to focus on you. Teach the "look at me" or "touch"commands for these situations. Whenever a dog comes by on the other side of the street, use the look at me command with the treat until the other dog has gone away. You can gradually do this with other dogs closer and closer until your dog even becomes friendly with other dogs. There may be certain dogs that your dog never is comfortable with, so you will always have to be vigilant.

They really have no right to and you may fight it on those grounds but because of the breed sadly they may still attempt to deem it viscious, they may try to say that your yard wasnt safe enought if the dogs could get in. They deem pit bulls viscious at the drop of a hat for soe reference on hoe you should be carefull and the unfairness that can be used in the cases of pitbulls i strongly suggest you read the case of the pitbull prada, she got out and got in a fight with another dog, a German shepars, (the owner of the dog said his dog was dog agressive and probably started it later also) the owner tried to break up the fight and HIS dog not the pitty turned on and attacked him. The pit bull got put on a death row for a year while her owner fought for her freedom, but the community wouldnt relent and finially a pit bull rescue organization stepped in and took the dog under the conditions that only the head of the organization and workers directly under her were to be abe to have any contact with the dog, and she was never to be allowed outside of her corders for the rest of her life. The pitbull was normally not agressive to other animals unless provoked and had absalutly no agresion to people and it had to go through that hard struggle because of its breed. i love pits and would suggest you be very carefull. Even go as far as to talk to the neibhors about keepin their dogs in and that your dog is dog agressive so that they are warned and it is totally their fault if their dogs get attacked.

"We just can't figure out why she don't like other animals." Seriously? This is not a fault in pit bull terriers, and while not all of them are animal- or dog-aggressive, a good percentage of them are. This is not a training issue, it is a genetic wiring issue. On what planet do you live that you own a pit bull and do not know this???
Your dog killing another animal in her own yard should not be actionable. That does not mean that she should be outside and unsupervised.

I'm sorry, but you're retarded if you think a Pit Bull's aggression is genetic. They are a dog, just like a Lab or Poodle. A dog's aggression comes from a lack of socialization and/or poor training and a dog's behavior reflects solely on it's owner.

Yes. You are responsible as a dog owner, and dogs shouldnt be left outside anyway. Try taking your dog out more, let her see other dogs, dog park (leashed,) etc. If it doesn't kill another dog who gets into your yard (Those ppl need to to get responsible that is awful btw,) it could happend when you're walking her so get her more familiar.

Maybe yes, maybe not. You could get (maybe) cited for failing to control your dog or harboring a vicious animal. Best idea is to get free legal advice from the radio lawyer, Len Tillem. It's easier if you just go to his website and ask your question. He will email your answer back. www.lentillem.com.
