What address to put on tax return?
I live in Chicago and I currently rent out my room in a house without being on a lease. Right now I'm still considered a Missouri resident (where I'm from) since I don't have an Illinois state ID. The landlady even told me not to put this address on my tax returns and use my Missouri one (which I find shady, but I think it's due to her ex husband still have some sort of entitlement or something).
I don't want to get in trouble and I want to eventually move, but since I have to do my taxes early for school I need to come up with a decision.
Forgot to include that I do have a job in Chicago.
Thank you all for your answers! May include that my bank is indeed located in Chicago, however I moved to this particular place in September so I haven't been there long. Don't know if that makes a difference

If you are a college student attending school away from home, your domicile does not change. That said, you should file your returns using the address that you want the IRS (and IL and MO departments of revenue) to send refunds to or to contact you at.
Ignore your landlady. Any address that you use for tax purposes is none of her business and would not possibly affect her in any way.

If you are currently living in Illinois and plan on being there come April 15th of next year, definitely use your current mailing address which happens to be in Chicago, Illinois. You are now an Illinois resident.

You are legally considered to be an Illinois resident at this point. You have lived in state for more than a month and are not a student. Your state id is also invalid.

your tax home is where you work unless it is a short, temporary, less than a yrs' duration
if you no longer have ties to MO, ie vehicle registration, bank accounts, leasing lodging or even voter registration you need to enter the address where you can be reached by mail when you file your 1040
if you anticipate a refund unless you have it direct deposited to your bank account, you need an address that is valid for mail to arrive, refunds are not forwarded.
IRS needs a mailing address you can be reached in case they need to communicate with you
her problem is her problem, not yours and should not be your consideration

except you have qualifying infants, you're actually not "Head of kinfolk". That submitting status isn't for adults with out based infants. Use whichever address you like, that is not significant. once you have become a refund, and are having it mailed, then do not use your modern-day address once you're shifting interior the subsequent month.

Use whatever address you want correspondence sent. It makes a difference if you need to prove residency for anything.

You use your "address of record", whichever that may be.
