What do accountants do all day, do they have to be extremely good at math?

Hi I'm 13 and in school we're doing career planning so we can plan the high school classes we want to take. I really want to be an accountant but am not in the advanced math classes, and an not extremely good at math. I have an A 98% in the regular math class. Would I be able to become an accountant? Do accountants work in cubicles all day too? Is it true you have good people skills? Do you have to be familiar with Microsoft Office Excel too? Do you count money too? Just wondering since its call accountants and its got COUNT in it. It would be really helpful if you can answer any of these and maybe tell me a day in the life of an accountant type thing? Is it hard to be with family and/or be a mom involved in your child's life or are you basically just busy busy busy and miss most of their childhood? I know I'm only 13 and too young to plan my whole life, your young just live your supposed to make mistakes yada dada dada heard the spiel from many people. Thanks

Would I be able to become an accountant?

Perhaps, but math is only part of the job. There are a lot of rules, regulations and personal interactions also. If you are good in Arithmetic and understand basic Algebra then you have enough math skills for almost all accounting jobs.

Do accountants work in cubicles all day too?

    - Some do, but many are on the road dealing with clients or out of there office dealing with co-workers or other people. Perhaps some lower level positions like clerks or Accounts Receivable spend most of their time at their desk.

Is it true you have good people skills?

    - Yes. If you work for a public accounting firm, dealing with clients and bringing is new clients is super valuable. In other jobs dealing with co-workers is the norm.

Do you have to be familiar with Microsoft Office Excel too?

    - Probably, most accountants use some type of spreadsheet.

    Do you count money too?

    - Most don't but sometimes you will audit or verify petty cash or other cash held.

It would be really helpful if you can answer any of these and maybe tell me a day in the life of an accountant type thing?

    - It varies. Public accountants go to clients to check their records so financial reports can be prepared. Also, they might work on taxes and/or other advice type jobs. Working for a company is more of a monthly than daily schedule. Reconcile, prepare journal entries, review accounts, prepare schedules, print reports, etc.

Is it hard to be with family and/or be a mom involved in your child's life or are you basically just busy busy busy and miss most of their childhood?

    - Depends on your job. If you get a job for a public accounting firm, they will want you to work long hours. If you get a governmental or job with a non-profit organization, they will be more lenient.

Teacher. You will enjoy the memories you make with your students. All the teachers I have had love their jobs, make friends with the other teachers, and even some of the students. Some of us kids can be pretty silly, fun, and memory worthy. Plus, it feels great to make someone's life better with education. It's great to encourage them and see them succeed. Of course, to consider this career, you have to be drawn to these ideals first. Accounting... It sounds like your mind would be basically reduced to that of a robot's programming.
