What format can be used by any computer system like Mac,Windoze, and Linux?

I just got a 3 TB external hard drive and am curious about being able to read and write onto it with all my computers. We have a multitude of them running different operating systems and need to combine all the files between them.

Update:

XP isn't even an operating system we use so that should be ok.

I would say NTFS would be your best bet, according to wikipedia it is supported on both Mac, Linux, and is the default for Windows based systems. Also check to make sure your operating systems can support 3TB filesystems, as I remember reading somewhere that some only support up to 2TB (XP I think).

    Hi

Linux can read its own file system EXTx and also fat 32 and NFTS.

Windows can read fat 32 NFTS but not EXTx file systems.

USB External drive NFTS should be ok.

If the external drive is nas/ network then filesystem type is not an issue .
