Wall Socket Very Hot- No Power?
I have a wall socket in a bedroom and for some reason it is very hot when I touch it. Does anyone know why this could be? I took off the socket plate and the plate itself was quite hot. The socket is not working and there is no power going to that bedroom. I can only assume because of the heat, there is juice getting to the socket. Do I need an electrician>

I would turn the breaker off/remove the fuse (depending on the panel) and then call an electrician. If it is hot, it could start a fire.

First take out the fuse that feeds that socket then if you know how you could test with a meter on the end of the socket to see what conditions are on the cable. However I think it would be more sensible to get an Electrician in you "do not" mess with Electricity far better to be safe than sorry.....good luck

Heat is a good indicator of a bad connection. Turn off the breaker feeding that plug and take the receptacle out and tighten the screws, then try it again. If you have a VOM plug something and run it (like a hair dryer) in and take an amp draw. If its anywhere close to 13 replace the plug.

turn off breaker to that side of the house or the main breaker if necesary. then change that wall socket. repower and see if the problem is fixed.
