Semi-automatic AR-15 rifles chambered for .22 rimfire.?

I'm just curious. How do all the people who favor more gun restrictions feel about civilians owning an AR-15 semi- automatic rifle (or any rifle with a pistol grip) with a 25 round magazine chambered for the .22 LR rimfire cartridges?

I dont understand why a person would by a 22 AR rifle for like 500.00 dollars when you can spend a little more and get a 223/5.56

If you really want an AR-style .22LR, get a S&W M&P15-22. It's well made compared to most other .22LR AR-type rifles, at least from my experience of checking them out at gun shops.

Of course, for about a third the price, you could buy a Savage 64F or a Marlin 795, and spend $200-$300 on ammunition...

EDIT: Oh, I just realize that this wasn't a question about what a good rifle would be...

I have no problem with anyone owning any gun, so long as they are not violent offenders or otherwise not legally allowed to own a gun. A .22LR is no more deadly (or less deadly, technically) than any other gun, and the difference in 10 rounds and 25 is relatively little in the hands of a practiced individual with multiple magazines. I can swap out the magazines in my handgun pretty quickly, so why would it matter if it holds ten or twenty? Is 2-3 seconds going to be enough for someone who is unarmed to jump me? Maybe, but then again... maybe not.

If I had to defend myself with only 10-round magazines, I'd do it... But I wouldn't like that sort of limitation, simply because it is an arbitrary limitation set by people who have no concept of the use of firearms or the laws they've passed.

Brandon...they do it because .22lr is much, much, much cheaper to shot...almost a 1/10 of the cost per shot.

Now, I've held an S&W M&P15-22 and a Rock River LAR-15 back to back...the 22lr rifle felt much cheaper as well. Personally, I think a person is better off with a quality semi like a Ruger 10-22, for half the price.

in simple terms offered an Olympic hands for targets and to accomplish a little floor squirrels. what's humorous is our adult males(defense force) grab the AKs while available and the Iraqis love the AR!?? tender capturing in sparkling circumstances.223 is a marginal protection around.A 22 on steroids! The AK in 7.62X39 is a sturdy around

I would assume, they would be against it.

If you want one. The Mossberg 715 is a nice AR style 22lr, it will run you around $350.
