"Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Is this a dumb comment or what?

Hate it when people say dumb things like "guns don't kill, people kill" etc. What bullshit is that? Then why not start selling grenades and atomic bombs in the supermarket too? Yes, on the short term, removing guns may not look like a solution, and villains are going to hide guns and use them, BUT then you remove the guns from them one by one, until on the long term (even if it takes 10-20 years), a psychopath can't use a gun in the moment of anger, because he can't get it easily!

Ya then people say dumb things like "a villain will get a gun no matter what even if it's banned, simply because he or she is a villain" etc. Screw this ****, seriously. Shouldn't we make it difficult for these villains to get their hands on guns? Even if we can reduce a percentage of villains holding guns, isn't that still a difference we make, and lives saved?

Finally, "citizens should be armed against government tyranny and against each other" blah blah. Then why not make it compulsory for every citizen to go through gun training, pass a marksmanship test, equip every single citizen with a package of weapons ranging from pistols, to rifles, to bombs etc, and then force everyone to bring the weapons everywhere they go to prevent any form of attacks? Who still need the police or marines?

Update:

The first answer below is a dumb comment already. I'm talking about a "no firearms" environment, where the villain probably is carrying a knife, baseball bat, etc. Or is your mind too screwed up that you can't imagine such an environment where there can be no firearms at all? Guns are banned in many countries go research. Except stubborn America.

Update 2:

To Jenn: So why not put rat poison around the food of your loved ones to keep out rats? Then if anything happens to any humans, opps.

To J.: Oh yes, because hunting for sports is so much more important than lives of people. I see. And rapists and burglars are so gonna let you shoot them easily without first blasting off your head with their guns. I see. Hmm take a moment and imagine all your scenarios, subtracting the guns.

Update 3:

To "4 more years!": Guns are legalized probably to shoot dumb commentors like yourself.

Update 4:

To "4 more years!": Oh btw, your 3000-deaths-from-drowning dumb logic is stats for the entire world of 6.9 billion people, while approx 30,000 die of guns in America alone each year.

Update 5:

To Overcome: You sir, did you just say "HISTORY"? Then why isn't the country advancing in the MODERN days? Oh, so you think your president is still George Washington? Or are you still living in WWI period? Stop watching TV already.

Update 6:

To J.: Hahahaha somehow you must sneak in an "illegal gun" somewhere in your point. Try having an "illegal gun" in China or some strict countries, IMPOSSIBLE. And I'm entirely against drink driving, that's for another discussion.

Update 7:

To "4 more years!": You live life as if there's no way you will ever be the next victim. You're immortal. :)

The worrisome part of what you and those like you say is that you really have no logical idea as to what you speak on. You only use emotions. You failed to clearly think things through to their logical conclusion and that is what most often ends up bringing about harm to you and to others as well.

I have been a police officer, an investigator, a firearms instructor. I have been in gun battles. I have had people try to rob me. I doubt you can claim any of the above about yourself in honesty. You likely have only seen news stories or read opinion pieces. And your lack of common sense combined with you lack of knowledge of history have lead you to feel what you feel.

My job is not to educate you for I doubt it is possible to do so. You likely refuse to see or accept anything which does not support what you like or want. You have a computer, so do some research on the effects of gun control. Find out what the first things that Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler and others did in coming to power. You will find that each of them instituted gun control. Ask yourself why that is? Find out how many times per year a gun is used to prevent/protect the good guys. Oh, you never hear about those numbers do you? Did you hear about the guy and his gun who the police are now praising because he used his gun to shoot a man who was trying to kill a cop? The incident happened within the last week in TX I believe. I doubt you heard or read about it. Do some research on the average response times for police in this nation. You likely have no idea just how long a minute can be or what can occur in that time frame. Your only likely experience in such things is when your email loads too slowly and you think ten seconds is an hour.

Sadly, people like you not only end up causing great harm to themselves, you and your ideas end up risking and at times resulting in the deaths of many other good people. Feel free to risk your own life if you wish. Do not trot your ignorance out and attempt to risk my life or the lives of those I care for. If you do not like or understand firearms, then do not have them. If you do not understand history, then remain ignorant. But do not risk the rest of us with your silliness or weakness. Sure, bad things happen in societies, especially open societies. That will never stop nor change. For their will always be bad people doing bad things. What you fail to grasp is that so much of how/what you think will in the end only assist these very same people.

Sonny, let me tell you something now. If the bad guys are not too worried about gunning up against a cop who they know is armed, they are not likely to worry about going up against you when they really do not imagine you will be armed. But sadly, people like you so often never have to find out such things in real life. But your silly ideas and wants so often do cost other good people needlessly.

That last paragraph is actually a good idea, though people should not be forced to carry weaponry everywhere. Grenades are a bad idea because the pin can be accidentally pulled and has a much wider radius of damage than a bullet, but pistols and rifles are A+. Generally, the states that have police as responsible for handing out gun permits have the fewest deaths relating to firearms. And ever wondered why you don't hear of gun stores or donut shops being robbed too often? Because there are always guns there, and most people in said shops know how to use them exceptionally.

Gun licenses should be given with extreme caution, but the more people who are expert marksmen, the fewer crimes and the lesser amount of time it'll take to bring raging psychopaths down. You don't even need a gun or grenade to be deadly; you can concoct a bomb with household cleaning agents (like that psychopath at the Batman shooting). No one in that theatre wipped out a gun to blow his head off, but were that in Texas, he'd of been shot dead within the first two seconds.

And what if there were a dictatorship? Then we'd have no way of defending ourselves. The marines and police would be under the authority of the thing in control - the government, which no matter how you look at it doesn't always make the best decisions.

If I shot you with a gun, who shot you? Who goes to prison? Me or the gun? Yeah, exactly.. You can't say.. "That gun almost killed me!" you say "That guy almost killed me!" (assuming you're still alive and able to make the statement) People will always kill people. It does not matter how, it's PEOPLE that do the killing. People drive the car. People wield the swords and axes. Take the person out of the equation, whose fault is it? Who does the killing? Wild animals aren't gonna use those things to kill. It's the person's fault, it is not the weapon's fault. Lightning strikes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, sinkholes, volcanic eruptions, that's all natural disasters that caused the deaths, so yeah those are at fault and not the human. Let's say there was a device that created hurricanes, and an evil human used it to destroy an entire country. Who is at fault, the human that pressed the button or the hurricane? Power doesn't kill, it's the user that uses it. You could be superman, you could wipe out all of humanity given enough time. But will you? If hitler had superman's abilities and wipes out all "non-perfect beings", who's fault is it? Is it because of the superpower and super strength and the ability to fly, or is it the PERSON, is it hitler's fault? Take away the ability, hitler will still kill. Take away hitler? The powers are... well they're not there, and they won't magically kill anyone by themselves

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv/ and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

I see your point.and under stand it.but In the last few days I have looked up gun crime in other countries.China.you are stupid enough to speak out against the government. and gun toting military will and does enter your home and cart you off never to be heard from again.. this is reality. deaths from auto accidents exceed gun deaths. quess we should go back to walking.deaths from, people driving and talking on there cell phone. over a 1000 last year. loks like we are going to have to out law cel phones.bombs are built and kill people.quess we better deal with that. Whom are the killers.really these objects are not animate.a knife pushed into a womans chest.the knfe it self decided to do this.A crossbow the bolt placed it self in the weapon, pulled it self back and is now in your back. This is an example don,t get stupid.People kill people,Gengis khan.murdered over a million people. He had no guns.horses. swords bows.untill Man can release his murdering tendencies. It is not going to matter what an idiot like you believes.Guns they are tools. I will admit created. to take life period. But even in the countries that have extreme gun laws. these crimes with these weapons still exist.and will always exist.I can go to a hardware store and buy pipe. fittings.and everything I need for less than a hundred bucks and create a weapon using air pressure to fire a ball bearing that will easily kill a man.I acn add ten small pipes to this design. and kill ten men at a time.At this point in our history. man has never been more violent.and our children are taught as soon as they are old enough to watch TV.how to kill and fight. ninja turtles.power rangers.I can name over a hundred cartoons and programs aimed at children. which are ubber violent.again I can easily see your point, doesn,t float.and filled with a lot of rhetoric. Its a nice dream you have.in a world that could care less.

"Shouldn't we make it difficult for these villains to get their hands on guns?"

YES, WE SHOULD. I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOUR IDEAS, IF YOU HAVE ANY.

"Even if we can reduce a percentage of villains holding guns, isn't that still a difference we make, and lives saved?"

IT WOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE, IF IT WERE POSSIBLE TO STOP THEM FROM GETTING GUNS. SO FAR, NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO STOP GUNS FROM BEING IN THE HANDS OF PSYCHOPATHS.

"Then why not make it compulsory for every citizen to go through gun training, pass a marksmanship test, equip every single citizen with a package of weapons ranging from pistols, to rifles, to bombs etc, and then force everyone to bring the weapons everywhere they go to prevent any form of attacks?"

THIS IS ACTUALLY A VERY GOOD IDEA! ONLY THING IS, IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO FORCE EVERYONE TO PREVENT ATTACKS SO LONG AS THERE ARE ATTACKERS.

Who still need the police or marines?

ANY COUNTRY THAT NEEDS PROTECTION AND LAW ENFORCEMENT. AND TRAFFIC SAFETY.

I didn't really take the time to read all of that. I will comment on your heading statement though. So, if a man runs over a pedestrian in a Ford, then does that mean that all Fords kill people? Or was the guy who was driving the Ford, the one who used the vehicle as a means of running over a pedestrian?

It is true that certain guns were made for warfare, but also some guns were made for hunting animals for food and sport. Guns can be useful for in home defense as well; protection against rapists, burglars ect........

Ok I imagined hunting a deer with a spear..um not so easy. You try shooting a compound bow accurately. Good luck chief. I imagined a burglar having a knife and stabbing me and my family with it, then I imagined me shooting a burglar with a gun, and at least having a fighting chance for survival. Then imagined a burglar having an illegal firearm, and me not having one at all because guns were made illegal, and as a law abiding citizen I did not have one to defend my family. That senerio ended in my death of course.

I also imagined banning Ford trucks because a few drunk drivers killed people with them. I imagined that it really pissed off all of the other responsible Ford truck owners, when they had to give up their vehicles due to the careless actions of a few Ford owners.

Description is too long. To answer the question, it isn't a dumb comment, it's pretty damn true. No one is forcing anyone to obtain and use guns to kill, that's entirely up to the person. Hell, many people have died from knives and bats and dam near everything we use for everyday use. Should we get rid of those also?

People will get guns, banned or not. Drugs are illegal and banned, but still obtained. It wouldn't make a difference banned or not. Banned, no one is gonna admit they have guns unless they have mental problems.

That last one about citizens being armed is complete horsesh*t. I agree with that point.

NRA members are dickheads and, by the admission of one of their own on global television, all of them were declared bad people.

"The only thing that stops a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun"

So obviously using that logic no one in the town where the children died is good, or none of the good people have guns. Either that or all the good people with guns were sitting on their fat american asses driving around supermarkets in mobility scooters buying donuts.

What stops a bad person with a gun is the bad person not being bale to buy the gun in the first place.

Arm everyone and send teachers to school with guns... great... until your realise that a teacher could be the one who goes crazy... or maybe one of the "good" people, goes crazy.

When the russians invaded georgia americans thought the USA was being attacked, when the americans attacked iraq the army had to explain to people where in the world iraq was... and people like these want to be armed with military grade weapons just because of an old bit of paper written yeras ago when people were cut off from europe and had no help, and needed primative hand guns to defend themselves. The founding fathers didn't envisage the 2nd ammendement would mean people being able to buy machine guns or get free assault rifles from restaurants if they buy the biggest steak.

If alcohol or cigarettes wre invented now, they would never be passed for sale, if the 2nd ammendement had only no been drafted today they wouldn't let people carry assault rifles.

It seems that making things illegal just doesn't really work. For instance, illegal drugs. I see people poison their neighbors and their community everyday with this stuff. Yet, it is very much illegal. A world without guns or violence would be wonderful, I agree. But, we just do not live in that world. Most things do not have the proper checks and balances in place. I know that making gun ownership illegal would not stop some people. As a matter of fact, everyone I know who owns a firearm obtained it and posses it illegally. They are quite simply afraid of those who live around them and they do not know what else to do. One neighbor sleeps with his firearm after being badly beaten. I don't agree or disagree with you on any particular point. I am just making an observation. I can't own a firearm because my husband is a " felon" because he was arrested trying to defend our home against an intruder ( without a firearm) and the intruder placed assault charges on him. They were dropped but while locked up he was given 3 counts of sexual battery against another inmate who was just looking for a way out of jail. He pled that 120 year sentence down to the charge of crimes against nature after being locked up in county jail for a year. Crimes against nature is defined as consensual sex with another man. I seriously could not even believe this was a law and it was used for nothing more than to simply embarass a heterosexual male who resides in a " poor" neighborhood. Needless to say, I don't see much use in any law when it can be bent to the will of those in authority and used arbitrarily as seen fit by corrupt court and law officials.
