I can log into the minecraft.net website but not in the actual game?
I just bought it looked through all the forums for answers and i shelled out $27 and dont want it to be wasted.

If your account is premium then you should be able to log into minecraft.
If it says that the minecraft.net servers are offline that means there's a problem with the minecraft verification servers or that they're doing maintenance, but fear not, your account is still valid.
They usually come back online after a few hours, so I think your problem should already be fixed.
Alternately, it could be that it takes some time for the purchase to register on their servers. It shouldn't take more than a few hours I think.
I hope those $27 weren't spent on external programs :/
