Gun sales up, gun injuries/deaths down. How can that be? Liberals keep telling us more guns = more death?

Gun deaths and injuries have dropped sharply in California, even as the number of guns sold in the state has risen, according to new state data.

Dealers sold 600,000 guns in California last year, up from 350,000 in 2002, according to records of sale tallied by the California Attorney General's office.

During that same period, the number of California hospitalizations due to gun injuries declined from about 4,000 annually to 2,900, a roughly 25 percent drop, according to hospital records collected by the California Department of Public Health.

Firearm-related deaths fell from about 3,200 annually to about 2,800, an 11 percent drop, state health figures show.

Update:

@bash, the article refers to the last 10 years. Gun sales are up significantly while gun injuries and deaths are down significantly over that same period.

The main reason is, yes because it takes a while to cycle the firearms around, and also, since crime is generally down overall, there is not as big a demand for under-the-table gun sales. There is a Russian phrase, "the pig will find the filth". It basically means that if you don't give the person what they want, they will eventually find it themselves. So really if the bad guys would want to get guns and go shoot people, there is no stopping them from doing that, for there is less reason for them to do so. No reason-no shooting.

Gun buy-back programs are being initiated to get those arms that can be used in a inappropriate fashion out of the cycle. But the numbers being taken back are much lower than the numbers being put in.

Gun sales went up for one main reason... There were all those people who thought the world was ending on Dec 21,2012 and they wanted to be armed if they were among the survivors. Secondary reason is people are afraid of people who have access to weapons that are capable of killing masses of people. We all know about the events that took place in 2012 that pushed so many to purchase guns. I am a believer in the right to own guns. But to feel compelled to purchase a gun to protect yourself from crazy people who have open access to such weapons because the guns owners are not responsible enough to keep their guns secured is a sad state of affairs. I think we need a law that makes the gun owner face the same charges as the murderer if their guns are not properly secured and are used to kill someone. Maybe that would make for more responsible gun ownership.

Despite the protests of the NRA, California bans carrying firearms openly or concealed within city limits without a permit, and makes such permits difficult to get. Despite the protests of the NRA, California bans carrying loaded weapons in any place shooting is not permitted. The only places you can have loaded or concealed weapons are your residence and your place of business. Despite the protests of the NRA, California also bans assault weapons. Despite the protests of the NRA, California also bans gun show sales, requiring almost all firearms transfers to go through a licensed firearms dealer (which requires a background check).

It looks like restrictions that limit qualified gun owners to possessing and using firearms in a responsible manner actually work, just like the "liberals" say!

if you have not seen the Clint Eastwood movie "Grand Torino", here is a relevant segment of it:

It's a great, heartwarming movie which I highly recommend.

Of course Californians are arming themselves. Spent most of my adult life there and was way ahead of the curve. Darned LA County sheriffs confiscated my sweet little .32 Semi-auto pistol. That was a bad day and cost me a couple days in jail. Fortunately I have escaped from the Police State.

I of course denounce the State government in the strongest possible terms ;)

The reasons behind your statistical linkages may simply be that the same highly paranoid idiots who are already gun owners and are terrified that Obama is "coming for their guns!" continue to buy out ammo shops and gun shops, only to expand the inventory of their own collections of firearms and ammo stockpiles, (which, since they are really a waste of money for someone who already owns a single firearm,) makes them about as useful as the impotent rage of the people who own them.

    California. One state.

There have been more than 100 deaths after Newtown.

Like the woman decorating the church, the firefighters, the cops in Jersey and so on. All were shot.

I can name more and I can also provide a link. So just ask, :)

Then guns must be good for you.

The budget should subsidize guns sales.

Charities should help the less fortunate acquire guns.

Those who already have guns should buy more and better guns.

    Happiness is a warm gun.

So, it extremely is particularly important to tackle. in one experience it extremely is a 0.33 grade project, and in yet another it is not. i think of the final analysis is your final assertion: "no longer having weapons, specific people will locate the thank you to kill somebody the two way, yet a minimum of then we are able to declare there are much less deaths by potential of weapons and shootings." Is that particularly the objective? Does it particularly rely to the lifeless individual no rely if or no longer they have been killed with a gun, stabbed with a knife, blown up with a hand-crafted explosive, crushed with a bat or notwithstanding? because of the fact the objective could be ... how can we cut back the type of persons being killed? which isn't the comparable question. in actuality here is the version: If by potential of letting all criminal gun vendors have weapons, and making it lots greater problematical for criminals and the mentally ill to get weapons you chop back all violent crime deaths by potential of two/third however the relax a million/third have been almost one hundred% dedicated by potential of firearms ... could you do it? it is not an impossible state of affairs by potential of any potential. If criminals assumed that whomever they have been going to attack became into armed, till they have been in addition armed they'd not do it and then purely the superb linked criminals could decide the thank you to get to black industry firearms. - it is realistically a possibility as an result. in actuality, a coverage prognosis could in all probability teach some direction that way with that type of coverage in accordance with previous study by potential of Kleck. you're able to even see non - violent crimes upward thrust on an identical time as violent crimes fall because of the fact the criminals seek for strategies of stealing notwithstanding it extremely is devoid of hurting all of us. For anti - gun liberals they could no longer take that. in actuality, they decline to have faith it is even a possibility as a manner of justifying averting having to truly look at suggestions of that type. For a third grader, they do no longer comprehend that type of tradeoff - they don't have the attitude, so some will reject that this sort of selection even exists. For coverage makers? we've a acceptable to anticipate greater desirable than from opinionated anti - gun advocates who're grieving mum and dad, or than from third graders. even with the incontrovertible fact that, we don't look getting it. could you're making that commerce? Read your own article: "gun sales in California peaked in the early 1990s, as violent crime also peaked."

Your article states that the reason is largely to a nationwide reduction in crime.
