What fish should I get?
I really wanted tropical fish so I bought a 60 litre aquarium which is turned over five times an hour by the filter. I'm wondering what fish I should get, I've heard Gouramis and Corydoras are good beginner fish. Any recommendations?

To get into the hobby the best start might be to learn as you go with a good hardy type of fish that will forgive you for any little mistakes. Given that you have all the equipment etc and have it all set and cycled I think that a great simple but really interesting tank would have 3-5 male Endler Guppy - very colourful and active fish.
Corys are good but are mostly bottom dwellers and gourami can be a little delicate for a first fish IMO.

Uh oh! No the rule is definitely not one fish per gallon of water! No way! And the inches rule really can't apply either. Check out aqadvisor.com to see what will and wont fit well in your tank and be compatible with other fish. Keep in mind mollies need 20 gallons minimum! Cycle your tank. If you don't know what I mean message me or google it....def most important step you will take in this hobbt

I would go with tetras, platies, swordtails and mollies. They tend to be quite hardy, at least in my experience.Though, if you are not up for raising fry (baby fish) try to avoid getting live bearers, since the other fish will tend to eat them right in front of you. The rule goes, for every gallon of water, you are allowed one fish. Keep that in mind. Good luck
Egg layers
- black skirt tetra (short or long skirt)
- Danio stripped or spotted (short or long skirt)
- Tiger Barb tetra
- Neon tetra (these are a little sensitive to changes)
Live Bearers
- Rose Platy
- Red wag Platy
- Tuxedo Platy
- Black Mollie
- Marble Mollie
- Gold Mollie
- Swordtails
