Will water from places like Mexico make me sick? PLEASE HELP?
Hi. So im in mexico right now and i heard that the tap water isnt clean and carries parasites. I have not swallowed any-however, i have a retainer (thing to keep my teeth in place after braces) and i rinsed that with the bad water and brush my teeth with it. sometimes afterwards, when i'm done brushing my teeth and put my retainer back in, i have to swallow a bit. but just dry swallowing. but since i brushed by teeth and my retainer using the water...and i am dry swallowing after rinsing...could i get sick?
if that is all too complicated, i would just like to know how much of the water would you have to swallow to get sick?
thank youuuu.
i really dont want to get sick

You heard correctly, you shouldn't drink the water. I live in the Caribbean and we cannot drink the tap water either, but for basic uses it's fine. If you are rinsing your retainer, brushing your teeth, or swooshing water in your mouth, you will be fine as long as you don't swallow it. Most of the locals in fact don't even drink the water themselves, only people who live in the country part of Mexico are able to handle the water. When I went to Mexico I took a nice big gulp of water, without thinking, and was paranoid I'd be sick, but everything turned out fine. Just try your best to spit all the water out and dry off your retainer as much as possible, just to be on the safe side. Have fun in Mexico!

It depends on your immune system and the part of México you're in. Most cities have purified water but rural areas are more likely to have bacteria on the water.
Aa I said, it also depends on your immune system. If you're not used to the local bacteria or minerals in the water odds are you'll end up with an infection. for example, I got sick after going on vacations to the US yet I never get sick for drinking water here in Mexico.
Bottom line, you won't get sick for brushing your teeth and you won't necessarily get sick for drinking it.

one eighth of a teaspoon can carry hundreds if not thousands of parasitic organisms. You need to drink bottled water only and use that for oral hygiene. Even beer would be better than the tap water in most locations. You should also try to eat only fruits and vegetables than can be peeled or pared..so stay away from lettuces and the like.

Brush your teeth with bottled water. Don't drink anything with ice cubes in it.
The intestinal 'bug' is commonly called 'Montezuma's Revenge' - and it often takes a visit to a physician to stop the cramps and diarrhea.

Yes it makes u sick. It makes you want to go to the bathroom and you feel horrible. PLEASE DONT DRINK WATER FROM MEXICO. The reason that they dont get sick is that their body is already immune to it so they are normal. But it is true their water isnt very clean or purified.
