I'm a retired woman, wife, mother, and grandmother. I read anything that strikes my fancy, and love answering questions.
Need some opinions from the Cat community. .?
I have been feeding some feral cats for several years. I have severe allergies, and cannot have animals in the house. Last year, I took one to the vet because it seemed so ill. The vet said it had a severe case of feline HIV, and I had the cat put down. The vet said that it was likely that the sick cat had infected the others as well.
Now my favorite, whom I can actually pet, is showing advancing signs. We will be vacationing in mid-May for over a week. I worry that the cat will not survive until we come back. (I have a neighbor kid put out food every several days.) I don't want to have the cat put down unless it's absolutely necessary, and I don't want him to die alone and abandoned, either. Any thoughts?
2 AnswersCats4 years agoToday is the first day of Ramadan.?
As a non-Muslim, I have a question. Sunrise in Anchorage Alaska is 4:26AM and sunset is at 11:31PM. 19 hours. And equally, in winter, the amount of night is only 6 hours, not much of a 'fast'. How does Islam handle the difference, as it would not have been something of concern to the nascent religion 15 centuries ago.

I have a container of store brand ice cream in the freezer. It is a basic chocolate with an additional ingredient. I never have trouble scooping it, it's always easy to get out of the container.
In the same freezer, same area, I have a smaller package of premium maker ice cream, a basic vanilla with an additional ingredient. It is always hard to take this ice cream out of the container.
Why is that?

According to the article, the Pentagon and CIA have objections, yet the US has stations in other countries as well.
5 AnswersPolitics7 years agoI can't forward, reply or compose on my Yahoo Email?
The bar icon will populate in the 'to' and 'subject', but will not go to the message area. I can use the keys to try to type in all three areas, and nothing shows up.
It's not the keyboard, as I can post OK to Y!A, and to Comments on the Homepage links
Any ideas????
1 AnswerNotices and Errors8 years agoDriver's licenses for deferred illegals - Arizona says "No", California says "Yes". Who's right?
"Arizona was the first to say no, and California -- home to more than 400,000 young immigrants expected to qualify -- was one of the first to say yes when deportation relief became available this week."
13 AnswersImmigration9 years agoSecure Communities deportation program - what do you think the Fed should do to cities that refuse to comply?
But some counties, such as Santa Clara County in California and Cook County in Illinois, refuse to place detainers on people at ICE's request.
It's unclear if the federal government will take action against counties that ignore ICE's detainers.

California budget cuts:
Among the health care cuts are limiting doctor visits to seven per year for people on Medi-Cal unless a physician certifies they need more, implementing co-pays on hospital and emergency room visits

5 AnswersGovernment9 years agoHow true is this statement - asking those in the UK?
This was in a recent Email forward:
> This week, the UK debated whether to remove The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offends' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. It is not removed as yet..
Is this something that is really being debated?
14 AnswersPolitics10 years agoHelp with a PBS TV series?
I have seen a TV series, hosted by Simon Schama, that I believe was called "The Adventure of English". It's a series on how the English language evolved to be what it is today. I was using it as a reference for another Answer, and could not find a reference to it on PBS, in Schama's bio on Wiki, or on Amazon. It's fantastic! Does anyone else have a clue about it?
1 AnswerDrama10 years agocan a French-speaking Canadian help me with this site, si vous plait?
This young woman has my late mother's name, both first AND last names. I think there are less than 10 people in the US with the same last name. I was looking to see if someone might be using her identity (again) and this site popped up.
I was astounded and curious. I asked on Y!A France about contacting her, but did not put in the site. They directed me to French White Pages (?). I went back to the original site that I had found, but I have no idea what this site is - can anyone help?

BTW - I am old enough to be her mother - as I think those are dates that she attended university.
Any assistance would be appreciated, and you can make me a 'contact', and Email me as well.
Si vous plait and merci are about the extent of my French

"A year-old start-up, Social Intelligence, scrapes the Internet for everything prospective employees may have said or done online in the past seven years.
Then it assembles a dossier with examples of professional honors and charitable work, along with negative information that meets specific criteria: online evidence of racist remarks; references to drugs; sexually explicit photos, text messages or videos; flagrant displays of weapons or bombs and clearly identifiable violent activity.
“We are not detectives,” said Max Drucker, chief executive of the company, which is based in Santa Barbara, Calif. “All we assemble is what is publicly available on the Internet today.” "

"(a nonsense screen name) wants to connect with you on Yahoo!" The message popped up in my inbox, along with a button to 'Accept'. I won't accept without better information, but I admit to being curious.

1 AnswerOther - Yahoo Mail1 decade agoAnyone else experiencing LOTS of problems with Y!A?
I'll click to go to answer a question, and the screen gives me any number of error messages. I answer a question, and click to submit, and I get the same messages again. Sometimes my answer disappears! I try to vote on answers, and nothing happens. This is far worse than before the maintenance.

1 AnswerUnited States1 decade agoHelp with a Chinese soup recipe?
I loved a Chinese restaurant soup that had a lot of creamy broth that was nearly pure white. It had a small amount of chunk chicken, sliced mushrooms (white), and peas in it. The restaurant changed hands, and alas, the menu also.
Is this familiar to anyone? Do you have a recipe?

5 AnswersTrivia1 decade agoCan you identify this TV show?
I remember an animated TV show where the characters lived inside of a computer. It was very cleverly done - the characters' names were computer terms: a boy named "Bob', a girl named 'Dot', a dog called 'Frisket', and even a villainess called 'Hexadecimal.' They would hear a voice saying, 'incoming game', and if they were caught in the game cube, they would have to play the game and win to survive. Does anyone remember the show and the title?
